What’s the importance of me drying my plants for 3 days in total darkness initially after my harvest?

I've been told to do this by several people throughout my first grow. And honestly, harvest was way off at those instances so I didn’t dig.. but I need to know. I have them in darkness now but, my flower tent was partially u zipped, the timer flipped the lights on, and bathed them with light all night long. I don’t think this is big but what is the significance of this please tell me. What i really want to know ig is what kills the plant, me cutting it, no light, or the drying no water? Once the plant starts breaking down the chlorophyll is that all thats happening, or is some more chemistry going on? And is that all that is happening during the drying and curing phase? Is all the potency there, just getting purified? idk man i'm high and confused at this point and want answers please help.

Oh 100% necessary. If you don't dry it, it will definitely grow mold. It also removes chlorophyll, increases potency and terpene content.

Also, 3 days is way too short. You want to stop drying when the stems snap but don't break and you can easily pull the buds off the stem but you want it to take 10-14 days for them to dry for minimum chlorophyll and max benefits.

Sry about that.. Ik 3 days is too short.. what I’m asking is how long do “I have to” hang them in darkness or how long should I.. I understand this process takes up to 15 days..

They are your plants. You don't have to do anything. Yes they will be more potent and terpy if they hang in the dark vs light. But the difference isn't as dramatic as all the regurgitated internet plagurized weed sites will tell you. If the weed is good it will still be good hanging in light. probably lose less than one tenth %. BTW Paper bags make dark.
