Oil from pump in my hydro reservoir

Hey what’s up people, so one of my pumps seems to be leaking oil into my hydro reservoir leaving and oily sheen/film on top of the water.
I’ve cleaned the main nute reservoir and my fresh water reservoir, replaced all my pumps and bleached out and rinsed repeatedly what I could. I run a hydro logic sediment/chlorine small boy filter(fresh filters) and just got a UV sterilizer unit but I need to exchange because it’s broken out of the box so I will get a new one tomorrow. I also bought a brand new hose to drain/fill my nute reservoir as the previous hose was very old and had a fabric outter layer which I think was trapping oil from being submerged all the time.
So does anyone have any experience with this? I’m worried that oily film has been the cause of some stress issues I’ve been having. They seem to be fine but I strive for optimal growth and plant health for the best product/yields.

how can I clean the oil out and is it any cause for concern?

heres my reservoir after I cleaned the holy crap out of it with bleach, rinsed then again with degreaser. I’m still getting this oily sheen on the top of the water. All new pumps. I added a mixer/aeration pump. All new hoses. There’s only one thing I can think of that’s causing the issue which is the 1590gph mondi pump I use to pump fresh water to my nute reservoir from my filtered clean water reservoir in the other room. The rubber hose I use is brand new also( just installed before filling res in the vid)

I did have that happen once a long time ago unfortunately it trashed the grow. Since then I only use mag Drive pumps no oil to leak into the reservoir. Sorry wish I could be more help.

I appreciate the wisdom none the less. My plants are still looking really good. I did flush and drain with fresh water 3 times in a row so maybe that helped. I’m not seeing as much crap in the reservoir . I’m in 2nd week of flower.

so I’ve seem to get rid of the oily slick that’s been plaguing my reservoirs by cleaning the holy shit out of everything with dawn dish soap and rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Plants are looking much better now and buds are taking off nicely! Just finished week 3 and smelling delicious

so I’ve seem to get rid of the oily slick that’s been plaguing my reservoirs by cleaning the holy shit out of everything with dawn dish soap and rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Plants are looking much better now and buds are taking off nicely! Just finished week 3 and smelling delicious

Gonna guess a seal on the pump went and all the oil leaked out so prob won't see much more but would probably be ready for a pump failure in the not to distant future if you didn't change it already. Who knows may go a long time but might wanna be prepared.

thanks, yeah I did. I went nuts and replaced my brain pump, rez pump, added an aeromixer pump that aerates and mixes, new pump for my fractal water magnetic imploder, all new tubing but was still having the oily slick after so maybe you’re right about the seal going out and leaking and having some residual oil still in the system. A few other people told me the same thing. Lol it’s wierd. I’ve been growing about 8 years and never ran into that problem. Using some dish soap seemed to do the trick though. That and vigorous cleaning and rinsing. Im definitely going to pull the whole system apart after this run and replace all grommets hoses and fittings.

Can probably just run some dawn dissappear for like 24 hrs and drain well. Oil floats so wipe the last plbit out with rags or something. Sounds like this ordeal was a bit costly... feel for ya man but atleast the plants are ok

Yeah I actually just used a little dawn soap. I figured it was the most mild degreaser I could use. Cost me like $200 to replace everything and the aeromixer I added but it’s totally fine worth it.

yeah, lol kinda... the bill at the hydro store wasn’t very slick. Needed to replace stuff though. My pumps were old and one of them was more than likely the culprit. Just glad I caught it in time before anything got really messed up
