Starting my first grow with living soil. Hoping for a mentor who can help answer questions and look at pictures and stuff. This will be my first good equipment grow as my previous attempts weren’t great with cheap lights, regular dirt, and too small a hydroponic system.

I plan to grow with a healthy mix of companion plants/fungus and second chamber and upper shelf of the tent for growing mushrooms and kombucha.

anyone interested in being my mentor?

I’d just hate to be someone who asks all the same questions others do and clutters the forum. But after reading hundreds of pages, im all searched out. I’ll consider posting my grow diary :D

I wouldn't stress too much about knowing everything before starting. Just grab some cheap seeds and have fun with it. Every situation is a bit different so what's right for you might not work for others. Sounds like you can do this though. Plenty of people here to help if you need.

Are you going to grow mushrooms in sawdust?
No but I am not opposed to it. I purchased a mushroom log with Morels (ambitious I know) and have 2 unicorn bags to grow from liquid culture. I haven't decided what I want to cultivate from the bags. Something interesting I hope!

Y'all are an awesome bunch. Really happy I found this forum. If anyone is interested in what I've done so far, I've planted 6 spinach plants, 6 lettuce plants, 3 autos, and I have Kombucha brewing on the top right soon to be replace with mushroom logs. I have about 6 other pots ranging from flowers to cacti also running in the tent for the time being.

Since I'm using living soil, I'm told that it's good from seed to flower without anything other than water and light. For 1/3 of the pots, I plopped a seed right in the dirt and covered the surface with barley straw. My logic here is the straw helps maintain a better temperature for the seed. I want to plant cover crop companion plants to one of the other pot to see how that changes the growing process. If I start having bugs, I'll invite a mantis to join the tent.

Am I doomed for failure? My goal is to get 3/3 plants flowered and cured. Not sure what I'll get in yield. Excited to find out.

hahaha, that brings back a memory...

when i was a kid we had show and tell. i found a praying mantis cocoon and put it in a cigar box and took it. i lost interest in a bit and stuffed it in the closet. in a few weeks we were infested with praying mantis! they were everywhere!

come to think of it a similar thing happened with tad polls and bullfrogs...

wow! my mother is a saint.

I think you'd do better to learn one at a time. I'm not sure about the mushrooms but growing pot in a tent for the first time might be enough of a challenge to start...at least your first grow, then add to it if you nail the grow. Just a thought, you'll get frustrated with a fail..

ahaha. how did your folks take the news it was you? We definitely wouldn't be okay with a mantis infestation. I have daughters who are scared of everything. Maybe I'll hatch them in a separate aquarium and move them over when I know it's just 1 :D.

I have a lot of experience with mushrooms. Just never in the same tent as other plants. Been mostly a counter-top experience. I'm hoping the mushrooms add more co2 in the room to make for happier plants. There's a concern I'm introducing another opportunity for mold. Hoping through living soil, companion plants, and proper hygiene that it won't be an issue.
