8/11 MALES in one pack of seeds..

what’s up guys.. let me ask you guys a question I had gotten a REG pack of seeds in which were labeled “limited edition release packs of (12 seeds) for $150 (from a pretty much reputable dealer of one of the biggest strains out. I ordered back in I think June or July of last year.. anyways, I don’t spend money on beans like that too much ESP for regs.. so I receive the pack.. from a authorized dealer. And I realize it’s 1 seed short.. so thinking their is no way anybody would be able to tell if I’m lying about being seed short. So I just take the loss with no worries.. I started popping them time to time and if you know me I usually go big or go home with my grows so I spend ALOT of veg time going seed after seed trying to find a female.. NO LUCK.. so after a few months one of my boys told me maybe you should holler at the breeder maybe they’ll make it right, so I did.. up until then, they answered ALL my questions from me inquiring about seeds BUT this time they left me on (read).. so I figure ok whatever at this time I was 1 seed short and only 6 seeds in the pack so I said maybe the rest will be fems.. I pop 2 more and what do I get 2 more MALES.. so I write them back for a second time about 4 days ago and ask if they’ll be able to do anything about this because it seems like I’m getting ALL MALES.. again. No answer yet and it seems like they’re intentionally not reading my DMs.. I told them I can provide pics, receipt, the seedbank I bought them whatever.. but they still didn’t reply.... I know it’s part of the game with REG seeds BUT 8/11 seeds with 1 missing!!?.. I wasn’t even tripping as much on the money it was the fact I was excited about running this strain and 8months completely waisted and they can’t even get me a answer...

Oh yeah forgot to mention that whole “limited edition release” was a sales tactic, they ended up releasing the feminized version of the same seeds a few months later for the same price...

BTW I forgot to mention.. when I asked them make it right I didn’t mean money I asked for a couple fem seeds, whatever they could do..

Getting shorted a bean is lame. I got a ten pack from a dealer and it came with an extra, and a couple bonus packs of randoms from the same breeder. Should be over not under.

What are the temperatures where you start your plants? If the temps are high, you will favor males. If the temps are low (about 70 F, I think) females are favored. Another trick is to have a source of ethylene in the tent — like a ripe banana or apple — to favor females.

I've done this in my last 3 completed grows from regular seeds. I always get more females than males in each grow, though not necessarily with every strain.

I agree with you on the temperature affecting the sex. I have read years ago that it may influence male or female and cooler promoted more female.

There normaly is a slightly higher number of females usually in a population of regular seeds,theres always exceptions to the rule tho,theres also new studies that say its predetermined so the conditions don't matter,whereas a few year back the studies said the same as the above post,that it was determined by temp/humidity etc,I just give the plants the best conditions to thrive,I don't worry trying to make them male or female,good luck.76

I'm sorry if I'm reading it wrong but it sounds like you bought from a seedbank but are going directly to the breeder with your issue, if that's the case then you should contact the seedbank that you purchased from and nobody else.

The story only mentions vegging plants to determine sex. Not all plants show any signs of sex in veg at 18+ hrs light. Have to switch to 12/12 for a couple weeks to determine sex.

Pack of regs, and you went 8/11. That is a bummer, been there recently. But also went 7/10 recently too. So, it is luck of the draw, and some enviro(temp, water, light, etc...) influences too, a little of each, or alot of one or the other, would be my best guesses. I only pay 2$ - 5$ a seed, if/when I am buying seeds. It would def hurt more if I was getting all boys at 15$/seed.

I might pay 7-10$ for a fem seed, have before, and had good results from Cannaventure Seeds. All girls, no herms, no boys, good seeds, at least the two strains I grew out from them.

Truck on, make some seeds with all those boys, then you dont have to buy that strain again ;), cross it with something else and ride the f1 vigor ;)

Just thought I'd mention — it doesn't make sense to me that temperature or ethylene would have an effect on the sex of a plant. I just tried it and kept a tally on the numbers of females I got.

Grow from 2019: 59% girls
Grow from early 2020: 59% girls
Grow from late 2020: 65% girls
(These are all rounded.)

The key time period seems to be right after germination to about 10 days.

That doesn't mean the original poster just didn't have bad luck. Flip a coin 11 times and it might come up heads 11 times or 0 times. But if you always get a skewed M/F ratio, consider the environment.

Thanks everybody for the replies.. yeah I had them in a room with temps around 68-73 so definitely on the cooler side.. I would’ve reached directly to the seedbank but he’s a smaller independent seedbank.. definitely legit though.. it’s kind of hard giving the exact situation. Without naming the breeder and what’s going on and I didn’t want to come off as a troll and start bashing a seed company over 1 deal gone wrong.. basically.. there’s was 1 respected breeder who passed away last year and he was the one who referred me to the seedbank originally. So I did about 2 or 3 transactions with the seedbank.. (fast and very smooth transactions) the original breeder passed away and they have other associates running it now.. then the seedbank guy had some legit problems in life (so I didn’t want to bug him with my problems) with everything going on with him so that’s why I reached directly to the breeders

I'd be very disappointed, too. But I know of no way a breeder or seed seller could know what the ratio will turn out to be.

theres a guy on IG who uses smashed up leaves to determine sex so that you dont waste months vegging.. i think he charges $12-15 per plant but i have not personally used it.

Thanks bro! I’m definitely going to do that the next time around.. do you have to send the leaves in to get tested? I’ve heard about the kits they sell like that too but wasn’t sure which ones were the best ones to go with, or weather or not they were instant tests or mail in tests.. BUT I’m FORSURE going to do that this next time around..
