Hey everyone! First time drying buds and what I'm noticing is that the heads of my buds feel crispier than the rest of each plant, but still are able to be compressed, while the rest of the buds feel slightly crisp and still quite moist. I'm just wondering if this is normal for the colas to crisp more before the rest of the buds??

Back story; 5 days ago I cut my plants down early morning. I've controlled the humidity keeping it at 50%RH give or take 3 % up and down. I've also controlled the temp keeping it at 70 degrees in my tent. Definitely concerned as I have zero reference from past grows as I'm a first time grower. I don't want the colas to get too dry before the rest of the buds do. On top of that I had really hoped to dry my bud for 10 days, but ill never make it. The fan you see in the tent hasn't been on at all. just heat when the temp drops too low and the humidifier when the humidity drops. Not sure why they dried so fast when I'm controlling the environment the way I should.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Cheers

this happened to me as well ... I trimmed, bucked and put into brown paper bags for a few more days... it seemed strange that the smaller low buds were still moist compared to the bigger top buds but I think sweating/drying in the paper bags evened things out and prolonged the drying process

Wait about 3 more days.
Today all the buds, even the lower buds that that weren't crisp yesterday, have that nice crisp, but not brittle attribute. However, none of the small stems are snapping, so I don't know what the best move is here. Should I still let them go another couple days? I'm so worried about over drying

You were 100% right, the stems are snapping today. It's a go to buck, trim and jar tonight. Thanks so much again for the advice, you're a weed wizard.

If you ever in doubt, jar them for a couple of hours with one those mini Digital hygrometer, if it reads anything above 70% than you can remove the buds and dry it for a few more days. You want to start your cure around 65%

so as it turned out from my 2 plants I ended up with 194 grams or 6.94oz's lol super happy about it, however the humidity once I jarred them was only at 35% so I put a boxed pack in each jar. Is it common for buds to be ready without the stems snapping? Excited to see how much weight I have once the bored pack does its magic

Some plants stems don't snap, just a good fold when they are ready, plus closer to the base of the plant is more moisture in the stem than the ends of the branches. If you want even drying then remove the branches from the base or hub of the plant before hanging. I prefer to hang the full plant to slow the dry down. Some need to remove due to humidity where they live. Just for future reference I buck mine into cardboard shoeboxes for a few days before jarring, this let's the buds even out in moisture too
