Can root bound become an issue in small pot?

I currently grow in pure coco, 2gal fabric pots, multi feeding. I'm getting tired of cleaning these fabric pots and thinking of making the switch to plastic pots. My concern is plants getting root bound. Fabric pots self prune but the hard shell pots won't.

I'm 100% positive these plants will be root bound within the first few weeks of flower. Is this going to be an issue in coco if I am feeding multiple times a day?

I see plenty of grows online in coco, small hard shell pots, so I know its done... any tips or insight is much appreciated. Thanks!

Plants can't get root bound in fabric pots. Rood bound means the roots run around in a circle and choke the plant to death. When roots hit the fabric they dry out on the end and stop growing.

I don't think you read my original post properly. I know fabric pots root prune, that's why I use them. My post above was about me being tired of cleaning fabric puts and wanting to switch to plastic. My concern was being root bound in plastic pots.

Don’t the 2g fabric cost ~$1. Seems easier to just pick up new fabric.

Where I'm at they are 3 bucks CAN... that's 900 a run, 4500 a year. I've decided to invest in a cheap washing machine and just wash they and hang dry them.

Yes plastic pots will aid in root bond. I also have the same issue with cleaning the fabric pots but i will still stick with them anyday the benefits far weigh out the negatives. The salt buildup in the pots is from the nutes we use which im sure you know. I grow strictly coco, under my new grow diary i tried amended coco for the first time & with amazing results even with the one 2Gal pot, the growth has impressed me compared using coco the traditional way. Best thing is no salt buildup so no need to clean the pots

On the paper yes, but imho if all of your parameters are good it'll just do fine; this is my first time with fabric pots but i've always liked using 0,25-0,65gal classic plastic pots with multi feeding without any issues. This said, I was never giving more than two weeks of veg before flipping them.

The only root bound problems i've ever met are the plants that I leave in veg in tiny pots for too long before transplanting them in bigger pots.

I clean them cause I'm OCD. I love everything to be clean lol. You're right imo, if you don't have any pest or pm issues I don't see a reason to clean them. I don't even really get salt build up in mine either.

The two in the front on either side were transplanted from .65 gallon plastic into the 2 gallon fabric you see here a couple of hours before this picture was taken. The roots had expanded the size of the pot causing it to swell out. You can see it in the second pic. I had to cut it out of the pot. Nice white roots and completely healthy.

Second pic shows the two closest to the front still in the plastic pots. This was 3-4 weeks from transplant and yes, they did grow up into the lights. I had to trim the flat every other day, about 1 inch from the LEDs.

Eventually.
I once kept a bundle of green crack in a solo cup for about a year and a half.

There’s a solo cup on Reddit with a pretty Damn big plant in it, coco, so no they won’t. Just feed and water enough and the roots also waont need to grow
