There's a tiny bug on the root and I'm not 100% sure what it is. My plants are showing symptoms of Russet mites...but this doesn't look like a Russet.. Thanks ahead of time

Might be small but if you click the picture it's on the top of the longest root...right where the root comes out of the rw

Thanks Yeah I checked the others...a few of them had it and they were all hanging in the roots. I've seen one flyer and thought it was a gnat. Any treatment tips?

I’m going to be applying nematodes. Nature’s Good Guys say this nematodes will attack root aphids and fungus gnats

Botanigard wp at 2 tablespoons per gallon is safe through the whole cycle. It is a natural but nasty fungicide.

An imid product like merit 75 drenched early in veg only. Will stay in plant more than 6 weeks but is systemic and will continue to kill root aphids. Needs to be done twice two weeks apart and again very early in veg only.

Not much else hurts them. It took me almost a year of yellowing plants before I even saw mine. And 2 grows with drenches and full cleaning of rooms and everything to finally get rid of them.

Good luck!

Do root aphids cause the leaf curling also? I thought that was a broad/russet might thing symptom

Just bought both and will try it out Thanks for the info!

Thanks, might give this a try

Yeah....my plants went from healthy as can be to yellow and stressed out in one week

at the peak of my infestation all pots were full of root aphids. They would come out on the edge of the pot and in the runoff when I watered. The plants would be fed at lights on and yellow by morning. The bugs would actually eat most of the nutes. I was feeding heavy and mostly feeding the bugs.

also the fungus gnat problem turned out to be root aphid flyers. They are a bit different looking than gnats. Now I know.

plenty of info online. Pick a good university or pest control source for info. You will see the botanigard and imid (merit) suggested.

the little tail pipes on the bug in your pic prove it’s a root aphid.

Sounds like a nightmare, what do you use merit/botanigard as a preventative for Root aphids now and did you get RA's from clones?

No preventative. I think I got them from a soil called potters gold from Michigan. Merit is a horrible poisonous pesticide. I used it one more round to be sure and now no more insecticides in the garden.

I will see them earlier if they come back now and would use botanigard and if early enough it should eradicate the problem.

I read that if you start seeing symptoms, they've already colonized....I'm going to spray/dip every single clone from now on, need to up my ipm game

I never take outside clones and I change clothes every time I enter my rooms. I never saw more than a gnat or two in almost 7 years of perpetually growing plants with no down time.

but then they appeared after I tried a new shop and new soil.

i forgot to mention I harvested it three out every plant in both rooms and left everything empty and cleaned twice for a month before re planting too.

if you keep all the plants you won’t likely get rid of the root aphids. They are able to reproduce from one live female flier. They can be born pregnant. Also they lay winter eggs in the floors and walls that can hatch for 6 more months.

research and handle them. Good luck!

Thanks for all the useful info! Will definitely put it all to use and not let this happen again
