Hey all, I'm still at least 4 weeks from harvest but being the overthinker that I am, I'm curious about harvest time. I've done enough reading to want to try the 24-48 hours of darkness before chop. How does this work in coco? I was planning on flushing with Flawless Finish (I'm using coco and Advanced Nutrients) and then putting plants into 24 to 48 hours of darkness. Two questions: do you prefer 24 hours darkness or 48? Also, how does this work with coco? Would I flush then just let the plants dry out during the darkness?
Day 22 flower.

Hey there, coco grower here. From my past runs, I have noticed that you definitely should want to flush your coco medium about a week before harvest. Especially those feeding through watered nutrients, flushing at most a week before harvest helps clear out any harsh chemicals/nutes left over that can definitely affect the flowers smoke and taste in the long run. I also would recommend doing 48 hours of darkness, the flowers go to work producing more trichomes before harvest. Just make sure your trichomes are mainly milky colored and with maybe like 10% of amber colored ones to ensure your trichomes are fully mature and packed with THC.

Right. But do you water during the darkness period?

Imho 2 days dark or light won't make enough difference to matter either way. But lets pretend it does. I'll say don't water. Let it use every last drop in the mix.

I have heard claims in regards to this method and have heard there are good studies to back it up. I never followed up on those so I make no claims here.

More curious about anecdotal acounts of using this method. And I am curious if watering directly up to harvest will increase retained water in flowers possibly slowing the drying process.

I dont water cause I don't like messing with heavy pots to dispose of... infact last grow I did start to finish in 1 gal pots and literally just hung the pots up lol. Seen no issues doing this.

I also do the 48 dark... it doesn't produce more trichs and 12 is enough to replenish lost terps etc.

The 48 is because during the Calvin cycle the plant moves excess starches to the roots. This is what attracts beneficial bacteria and fungi. Less starches nicer, cleaner burning bud... so the story goes. I find it helps but thats just an opinion.

My plants in 1 gal would suck em dry in less than 8 hrs. So I watered right up to the morning of 48 dark. They don't drink much in the dark as there is no photosynthesis so really no need to water them imo. Letting em dry out just makes em easier to handle.

Thank you bro, I'm glad everyone chimed in but I was waiting for your take on it. Appreciate it.
