Anyone have Thirsty girls in soil?????

Watering everyday. I give 1 gallon of water per 5 gallon pot and the next day they are still thirsty. Soil seems dry enough to give another water. But I am getting small amount of runoff too!


Different tent same info as below but 3 gallon fabric pots and week 7 of flower. Same deal 2.5 liters of water for them and next day they want more?

5 gallon soil fabric pots

veg for 5 weeks (4 plants in a 4x4)
day temp 82-85 F
day RH-60
night temp 72-75F
night RH 50
using Jacks 321 every water, supplement Recharge and Tribus weekly

You're not watering enough when you water and you are watering too often.

You want to make sure ALL the soil is wet — the sides of the fabric pot should be damp, along with the soil adjacent to it. Then don't water for at least 3 days, or until the pots are light in weight.

Cool thanks mysticepipedon. Thats what i was thinking. Also first time in 5 gallon so super paranoid about overwatering. I feel like I'm getting enough runoff and if i give more than a gallon it just drains away.

I second that^ they really need a dry period in between watering. Aquaman did a great watering post... I don't have time to find it atm.

Sometimes dry soil, especially when it's peat based, will resist wetting and you can get pass-through water without wetting all the soil.

Try putting the pot in a shallow dish and put water in the dish. Does the pot soak up all the water after about half an hour?

Wow, your plants look amazing! I hope mine look like that someday.

As far as watering go. I had the same issue early on and had to almost train my plants to go longer and longer. I got mine up to going 3 full days.

Mine are in Flower now and I am watering currently every 48hrs.... I think this is a good schedule. At least for now.

Ive heard daily watering is common in Flowering though.... But I am a newbie myself.

Those are the week 1 flower girls and the others are week 7 ( don't mind the curled up leaves in the week 7. Room hit 90 for an hour or so. A couple got pissed at me. Forgot to mention what you are looking at

Personally I use 5 gal fabric pots with promix hp, gh flora trio + calmag, country tap water. In veg i can get about 5 days maybe 6 between feedings, in flower 7 days is about the max I can go between feedings before they start drooping. I slowly feed 2 gallons each which usually gives me about 5% to 10% runoff.

As long as it’s drying out and there are no real dry pockets in the soil that works fine.


if you put say a gallon and a half in you will get more runoff and it does help wash out excess nutrients and calcium buildup from tap water and some waste then you would likely wait 2 or 3 days to water. I like to do it that way as it’s less work for the same results but if what you are doing works and is comfortable for you don’t change because a bunch of growers on a forum refer to a thread on watering. Many methods work fine.

Being that it was my 1st indoor grow ever & 1st time using smart pots it really threw me off & made me overthink the watering process,lol.

fox farm soils need at least 25% large course perlite mixed in for proper drainage. Without it turns into a muddy brick.

do you have any clue what this yellow film/mold can be, looks like its kinda creeping up the plant and killing young sucker branches. I have been looking for days now and it is taking its sweet time doing it.

I thought the same .theres no petitole droop or top of plant droop from lack of water...they look really nice

As the plants get off Opder and the roots expand in the pot it drinks more and more. Watering everyday At your stage is pretty normal if day.

Didnt know that but makes sense. Wish I wouldve known that then. Are you familiar with Coast of Maine Organics grow mix. Just wondering cuz thats what I got this time & was wondering if you think I should mix the perlite with that? Sorry to jack your thread done,was just curious.

I mix in coarse with almost everything in varying degrees. Also the trick to watering in fabric is to go slow. I go thru and give everything a small drink then go back thru again slowly till I get a little run off if that’s what I’m trying to achieve. It helps stop the water from going out the side of the cloth pot. Wet vac your runoff.
