Interesting thread!

What can a first time grower expect with a high yielding strain in a 3gal coco hempy with LED? Is 0.5g per watt achievable?

I agree 100%, specially when warehouse spaces are so difficult to find that one has to come up with creative ways to increase productivity. Im forced to cram more bulbs per square foot (more than the industry standard) in order to maximize my output per square foot. I try to maximize space even if it drives my GPW ratio down.

In my opinion one must have as much information as possible in order to compare results properly. One cannot simply go by gpw they must know other factors. An example is doing 1 1000w over a 4x4,5x5 vs 1 1000 up high over a 10x10 or 12x12 doing this the 10x10 grower would appear better based soley off gpw. Ive seen this done by a client before and although the gpw was crazy the product u can imagine was junk

Hi Guys I'm a total newb to growing but just pulled over 2gpw using 2 - Mars Hydro TS1000 Lights in a 2.5x5' tent on my first harvest. I think the new generation of LED lights have made the 2g/w goal very achievable now. I picked up all the knowledge I have from watching Youtube videos, no hands on at all until now. I picked these lights because of the "Half Pound Challenge" Mars Hydro sponsored using one TS1000 in a 2x2 tent, and figured that it must be real because so many people had posted their results on Youtube. A Half Pound is 227g, the plants love these lights, they only draw 100w each from the wall, so that's 2.27g/w. That is slightly less than what I actually produced but I could have trimmed a little closer. The lights have a dimmer for seedling stage, only heat up the tent a couple of degrees, and the controls can be daisy chained into one timer.

I had three plants, a Skywalker OG (7.7oz), a Gorilla Glue (7.2oz), and a Girlscout Cookie (4.8ozs) in the middle that produced considerably less than what the SWOG and GG did that were directly under the lights, so I think the difference was partly lighting position related and partly that GSC isnt as heavy as a producer as the other two. Growing in 5 Gal bags of Ocean Forest, using the Pro Level Feed Chart and ALL the different nutes on it from Advanced Nutrients, I do Top in early veg, and defoliate the biggest fan leaves twice in the 7 weeks of Veg and selectively after three of the nine weeks of Bloom to remove shade from lower flowers, plus a week of flush.

How long have you had the light? Didn't you know the Mars ts1000 uses 150w?

High Efficiency White LED Light

Newest SMD LED technology provides the highest PAR/LUMEN output (709umol @ 18") designed to replace a single-ended 1000w HPS. The Mars Hydro TS 1000 grow light gives you a 30% higher yield compared to old blurple led lights.

Low Energy Consumption

Consuming only 150W with 342 LEDS, the Mars Hydro TS 1000 saves up to 50% more energy than other led grow lights. Perfect for 2.5’ x 2.5’ with max coverage of 3’ x 3’.

Sunlike Full Spectrum LED Indoor Growing

660-665nm Red IR/3200-4200Knm/5200-6800Knm – excellent for all plants at all stages of growth, rapid plant response from seed to flower and increased yield & crop quality‎

Noise Free Fanless Design

Make your growing life easy and quiet. Aluminum construction disperses heat and reduces light lost to aisles and walls, increases the light intensity up to 20%, allowing your plants to receive more energy without burning and providing opportunity for maximum headroom,

Commercial Quality LED Grow Light

The Mars Hydro TS 1000 auto-sensing power supply works on both 120VAC and 240VAC and 277VAC, suitable for large rooms and commercial setups as well as small home grows. The dimmer on the power supply allows you to easily adjust the brightness yourself.

Total bullshit lie. This light can replace a 250w hps at best.

I double checked the specs and you are correct, The TS1000 is 150w, not the 100w I stated and used in the earlier post, their product description on Amazon even states, replaces a 250wHPS. Thanks for the correction. I'm a newb and this was my first grow, sorry, no wonder I noticed the jump in my light bill and now dread the upcoming peak rates in Summer.

So many seeds popped and my first plants were going so well and the government sent another Stimulus check, so I expanded as fast as the plants grew, from the original 2x2 tent (that I now use for seedlings/clones with a TS650, thats where the 100w spec got stuck in my head, sorry again), to a bigger 2.5x5' tent and a second TS1000, and a week later on a Black Friday Deal, I went Big (for me anyway), bought another 2.5x5' tent, two more TS1000's and the TS650, so now have a total of 4-TS1000's in 2-2.5x5' Vivosun tents, plus the 2x2 with a TS650. But the good news is that means I have another harvest in 6 weeks! :) I crammed two SWOGs, one Gorilla Glue and a Girlscout Cookie in this second cycle so I might get even a little bigger yield. The class after that will be one each of SWOG/GG/GSC plus a Space Queen.

Given my misstatement and resulting miscalculations, let me recalculate using 300w for my two light/tent setup, and I pulled more like 1.55 g/w, on a 16.42oz/465g yield of smoke. I double checked my actual weights and found another math error in my original post, I included the trim wt with the bud wt on the Girlscout, it only yielded 2.2ozs of bud in the center slot between the lights vs over 7 apiece for the Skywalker and Gorilla that were more directly under the lights. But I think a first time grower getting over a pound of smoke from two lights using a now corrected total of 300w is pretty good isnt it?

Adjusting the other statement/calculation I made, because I used 100w instead of the correct 150w, in the original post regarding Mars Hydro's Half Pound Challenge, 8oz = 227g/150w is 1.51 g/w and many besides me, that have posted week by week videos on YTube, achieved that threshold and more.

So not total Bullshit, and I am definitely not lying, have no motivation to, but apologize for my earlier post being inaccurate due to the wattage mistake, I stand corrected.

I like the lights, especially being able to adjust them individually as different strains grow to different heights where you have to compromise with one long light, although production did seem to suffer in the center slot in between the lights as LED lights are hottest in the center zone. I might play with the light positions in the future to see if I can smooth that difference out a little but take it that I should be pretty pleased with anything over 1.5 g/w? Material wise, they arent that impressive, adhesive stickers peel off the aluminum reflector after they warm up, etc, but are clearly getting the job done. Given my lack of experience, it appears I fell into a pretty good combination of lights and Nutrient Regimens even though Advanced Nutrients is expensive and lots of different bottles with cute names to buy so I'm glad they sent that last flu check!

Not calling bs on you. I call bs on mars for saying it replaces 1000w light in one ad and 250 in another. The fake ppfd numbers are also bullshit as proven by independent testers.

If its dry weight and equal to a 250 wt hps.

You done good!

Mars lies and says 743umol at 18". All the independent tests show about 500umol @18". They know they're lying, they've been called out for lying. But they continue to lie because people believe their lies. You can't expect them to tell the truth and not sell any lights! That would be immoral by their standards.

Don't get your blood pressure too high. Almost all companies quote specs under the absolute best possible conditions, in Business Law that is called "Puffing", not lying, that's a moral judgement not a legal one until you cross the line of fraud. Audio companies were the worst offenders, in terms of an amplifiers rated wattage vs distortion, and speaker frequency range stats that always seem to exceed the human ear's ability to hear. That's what marketing departments do, push the stats as far as they can go without getting sued.

Bottom line is a first time grower, me, using the 2-TS1000s (300w) and Adv Nutrients "Expert Grower Level" nutes in 5gal bags of Ocean Forest got over a pound of smoke from 4 plants in a 2.5'x5' tent, exceeding 1.5 grams per watt from the wall. I'm adding 3 more of AN's "Pro Grower Level" nutes on the current round, hoping to boost my harvest 15-20%, closer to 20 oz per turn. I'm wondering if putting a third light in the middle will get me a closer to 2g/w or potentially be overkill, lowering my average given the limited space for that additional 150watts? More than the lighting stats and ratios, its pretty obvious even to a newb, space to grow and type of strains grown are big factors in final yield too.
