Hello all, I have been growing my own meds I Started out growing in soil. I Enjoyed the soil part just didn’t enjoy the messes, slower growth and bugs so I decide to do Hydro.
My first hydro in a dwc 5 gal bucket, turned out ok but didn’t have recirculating and the more I realized the bigger the plant the more maintenance I had established for myself. It was hard maintaining four 5 gal buckets to clean out and purge, So I decided to do a recirculating hydro system. My 1st system was a success but had a few problems like a low reserve tank with 8 gal and it was distributing to 4, 5 gal buckets so I was checking the levels 2 times a day and had to refill the reserve tank on a daily basis and I created more work than I can take with my schedule.
Over my time growing I’ve learned that these plants suck water like a MF when they get bigger.

So now I have 1 , 5 gal bucket with a 27 gal reservoir tank to recirculate.

I just transplanted this purple sour D today from the baby room that was only getting 90 watts and look how big she got under the SF1000, and now it’s in a 5x5’ tent with a Sf4000 and I will be adding another SF 4000 when she gets her training in. Seems so much easier to handle to me. Wish me luck! This baby gonna get big hopefully with proper maintaining and care. Just gotta get rid of them spider mites 😬

Increasing the size of the reservoir is always good. For spider mites, I have good luck with Azamax, mixed as recommended, sprayed in three day rotations, at least 4 treatments. I add a few drops of dish detergent as well.

I use dr bonners peppermint soap with a dash or two with cayenne pepper.

Also using boiled tobacco juice which really helps.

Every few days a diluted solution of peroxide and pure h20 is sprayed too.

Thanks for azamax recommendation

Looks like a success so far. Roots are already growing below the basket in less than 1 day after transplant.

Last week I ran into a hiccup, I forgot to hook back up the water pump for approximately 12 hours and she took a turn for the worst all leaves drooped and I thought she was gone with some particular issues I had with the AC not working properly and the water pump disconnected. She went through hell and back with temps hitting 88f and no water circulation, the good thing is that she’s recovering. Roots are taking strong and with the new growth she will come around.

She’s looking like she’s got a strong recovery after the little 12hr recirculating hiccup and high temp increase.

This was her immediately after the 12 hr hiccup. Will post another picture soon what she looks like in several days as I will train, trim, then take my clones.

In case it helps, I've had good success with using a 10 gallon rubber trash can as a dwc bucket, it kind of the combines the best of both of your setups without the drawbacks. The 10 gallon is half as much maintenance as the 5 while still keeping the temps down by only using air stones without an external reservoir and recirculation. Also, if you lose power or an air pump fails the plant is in twice as much oxygenated water compared to the 5 gallon bucket no matter how big the external reservoir is.

Nice advice. The only concern is my height. Do you have a pic of this rubber trash can and what sort of basket do you have with it? Trying to picture it but have nothing to go off of. Thanks.

I only have 5x5x7’ tall tent and my stand and bucket are already taking up about 2.5’

Not the best pic but it was already in my profile. I just cut a hole in the lid of the trash can the same size as the net part of the net pot lid and its only a few inches taller than the 5 gallon buckets. Also gets two airstones compared to the one airstone in the 5's. My ceiling is only 7ft too fwiw.

Nice looking plant

This is this morning, Looks like she’s coming around, I only have her at 400-500 ppm, in a few days I will up ppms to 750 and I believe she will explode, still needs training though being lazy 😂

She’s running at 550 ppm atm. 75f water temp. Room temp 73f. Roots are good. Put in the scroog now it’s time to train trim and get clones. Added 2nd sf4000. Adding her way up to 750 ppm
