It was suggested to me by a fourm member to do a side by side comparison.
My system 13 gal rdwc , current culture
Tangerine tonic a clementine gmo cross.
I grew 4 of these out the last round and the day i flipped them to flower i cut clones from what i considered the best of the 4. Here she is on day 64. They were harvested on day 73 (july 20) and could have gone another week to 10 days

Today her clones the 4 in my trial are on day 14 of flower and i haven't done any removal of leaves.

I plan to defoliate number 1 and 3 around day 21 as i normally would and just clean up the lower branches of the other 2

How do you think it will work out?
I have trouble thinking the plant would have bigger buds without all it's leaves..
3 years ago i would have agreed with you going with the solar panel theory.

But since then I've changed to the defoliation camp, i know my yield has increased and i think its mainly because of the defoliation where as the fourm member that suggested this trial is a solarpannelest and thinks otherwise.

If every factor has not remained constant, it doesn't prove anything either way.

Almost every grower will get better over time and they tend to increase their yields as they gain experience growing. Attributing it to 1 factor is what creates bro science.

Every scientific study done by actual scientists at Universities across this nation have concluded that heavy defoliation (35%+) will reduce yield of any species of fruit or vegetable, every time.

And I'm not a solar panelist, I do defoliate 5-10% at times, especially the big fan leaves that block bud sites and reduce air flow thru the canopy.

Just thought I'd mention that, good luck with your grows.

I think this is a far cry from bro science when an actual comparison is being made. And we have one degree of freedom! That's got to be at least one degree higher than the best bro science.

A comparison without having complete control over every variable and differing variables from grow to grow is exactly what bro science is.

And yes, freedom, 'Merica!!

Let me say my venture into defoliation was 2 fold.

It makes harvest so much easier (using a bowl trimmer)and it allows me to keep a better eye on things.

My grow is all personal and i have no problem pulling a lb from each plant weather i defoliate or not so an increase in yield was not my objective but i do think it was a result.

I plan to defoliate 2 of the 4 plants tomorrow. Originally i said i was going to defoliate #1 and #3.

Does anyone want me to pick 2 different ones for this trial?

Pulling up a chair.

Seems to me that the plants aren’t very bushy up top. If I just looked at the pictures, I would have guessed they had already been defolianted. Which makes me think that there’s not going to be a big difference (like you might get with Indica with big fat leaves and short internodal spacing).

Anyways, good luck @smokedareefer I don't wanna side track your thread anymore.
Not side tracking the thread at all. Actually your posts were my reason for asking if someone would prefer picking the 2 to defoliate rather than me saying which 2. I thought that if someone else was to pick the 2 to defoliate it would make the trial a little more random.
