Starting my 2nd DWC grow.

Cant figure out what’s going on. She’s on week 4 of flower this week. I have PPM’s low down to like 350 and she rises up to over 500 and ph goes from 6.2 down to 5.6. Idk where her happy medium is. She looks healthy tho.

Way too big for that small of a res. You wont stop your ph fluctuation without adding a res. As for your ppm increasing, your meter has to be junk lol. . I would lower it more, just act as if ur meter isnt working correct, but it does still tell you if the plant needs more or less food. So while your numbers are not right, the plant is still telling you your feeding it to much, regardless what your final numbers are.

Other than constant maintenance for ya, it looks good lol. . .your doing great. . but you will be in that tent every 8hrs adjusting for the next month.

Ya it has been annoying, every 8 hrs or less I’m constantly either adding PH or adding water to lower the nute and raise PH that way. Just been a game really. On my first grow I used the same Rez but plant was much smaller. I was hoping this Rez would of still worked for going bigger but I’ve learned and next grow I’m hoping I have the room for a RDWC with bigger rez’s. Learn from mistakes is all.

So I upgraded the bucket to a much larger gallon bucket. Wish I did this from day one. Good news is when I do go to a rdwc system I can reuse this bucket for it. For now the P.h is stable and I’m getting better readings for the PPM’s. Let’s see how she does from here on out

Just an update, she just hit week 5 of flower. She looks good. Some nute burn so I lowered the PPM’s down. P.H is sitting at 6.2 which I’m happy with. Letting her do her thing.

I have been doing living organic soil and I'm thinking about doing one DWC, 13 gallon. I live in southern CA and it gets hot here. With lights on I could hit 89-91 sometimes without AC. I run them at night so those temps don't happen except for a portion of the end of the day like 6pm sometimes.
Are you running this without a chiller? How do you keep the environment cool? I have a tent indoors, AC Infinity exhaust fan with passive intake.

Ive had an A/C running basically since beginning of June in my living room where the tent is located. I have a 4in vivosun exhaust fan. My temps during the day get to about 77F and at night gets down into the 60’s. The A/C helps greatly.

As for a chiller, no I am not running a chiller. During lights on which for me is 12pm-12am I throw ice bottles into the res system which keeps the temps of the water under 73F at all times. It’s a bit annoying since I have to lift the lid up to change the bottles every few hours, but I do not have the room for a chiller so it’s what I have to do.

eventually a chiller will be next and also I’ll change to a RDWC system for the less hassle of nute changing

I really want to make it a one pot operation, I am looking at Current Culture 13 gallon Solo but I keep reading about RDWC and how it's better but I don't see any "plug & play" RWDC one pot systems so...and I would just rather spend the money than building my own.

so you can't plumb the one you have to drain without having to pull it all out? I don't want to do that. I will research RWDC more.

You can, I have a drain plug. But to test the ph and add ph down or Up or even add more nute water or regular water you have to lift the lid to do all that. Which once the plant gets bigger and roots start getting heavier it CAN be a pain. If you Have a RDWC you can check all that without touching the plant because you have the 2nd REZ.

Just drill a hole in the top and run a tube and funnel. Put a valve on the bottom drain and just test some from there. Shouldn't have to lift the lid except for inspection.

What’s a good amount of frozen h20 to keep water chill safely in relation to say 5 gals? Would you or anyone know this ratio?

I want a current culture with one plant but I’m not sure how to buy their stuff since they sell a (4) pot or the solo. I’m thinking I could get the solo, and expand but I’d like to do it their way so I’m inquiring how I can.

Update 8/19:

Mid week 6 of flower. She looks good, PPM’s have been on the low end under 400ppm’s which is crazy but when I raise it she doesn’t like it. P.h stays pretty stable minor ups and downs. I have her now more on a bloom nute setup. I believe I should of done more of bloom from beginning then having the full trio, she still has some of the other nutes mixed in but more on bloom.

she’s not as thick of a bud as of right now, hoping she fattens up in the last few weeks she has left.

I love the purple color she is getting from the temps at night.

update 8/27: she went thru some heat stress and also magnesium issue. About a week left, trying to get her back. She still looks good tho. Here are some new pics.

Update 8/31:

I attached a video below of the trichs. I think she needs maybe a week or more cant fully tell. Lmk what you guys think.

She was also having a nitrogen deficiency, so I did a Rez change and added more bloom nutes . I can’t seem to figure out the bigger gallon ratio yet. I went for a 5 gallon Rez (only 2 gallons of water) to a 12 gallon Rez (5 gallons of water). If I add the cal mag it raises the PPM’s past where she is taking in. If I don’t add cal mag she shows signs of not having enough. Can’t really find a happy medium.

I’ll learn from this and the next plant she will be better.
