I've been lurking a ton and learning a lot. Even posted a time or two.

I live in central Virginia and am growing for the first time. Girl Scout Cookie outdoor in 15-gallon grow bags using Foxfarm soil and nutrients. Trying to keep it simple and organic.

Before I go any further, I have to send out a huge pulse of gratitude to all the men and women who have produced marijuana that I've consumed over the past 40 years. I'm sure I've inhaled plenty of dead bugs and fungi over those years, but by and large, and especially for the last few years, the quality has been always improving. And they did it at extreme risk. I literally can't imagine the stress.

It's a whole lot challenging than I would have thought. Of course, I'm making it harder on myself by obsessing every little thing. But gardening teaches patience; maybe no gardening moreso than this kind. I'm learning a lot that will make me a better grower of other plants.

Commiserate with me, ye central Virginia outdoor growers. What ho, humidity? Wherefore art thou, gentle breeze? Tiny caterpillar! Whither? Begone powdery mildew.

Sprayin' and prayin'.

Thanks, growers.

And good luck to all!

Welcome! I too am a new VA grower and while I dont currently reside in Central VA (moved a bit east), I spent most of my formidable years there.

How are you liking outdoor growing? I am indoor myself, specifically for the privacy and ability to control environment. How are your plants coping with the crazy and constant humidity?

Also how do you deal with the privacy of growing outdoors in Central VA?

Hopefully the remainder of hurricane ida brings some cooler air along with it!

Hey bud, central VA grower here as well... but alas, I deal with humidity by growing indoors in a tent. Post some pics if you're able!

We're in the country on a couple of acres so I've been able to just put a couple of plants in my back yard without any issues, so outdoor is the natural choice. And indoor space is limited...no basement, garage is full of freezers and tools. It's been really hot and humid and the air doesn't stir. I literally have a fan in the back yard blowing on my plants trying to compensate for the humid stagnant air!

I germinated 5 seeds in early May. Put the shoots in regular old miracle grow potting soil in solo cups for a month or so, putting them outside as much as I could, then put them in their forever pots. I didn't want to mess with all 5 and don't have a ton of room so I kept the best and worst of the plants, gave one to my son and two to a friend. That will hedge me against crop failure! Here's the one that's doing well. This picture is from about a week ago, and she's stacked up a bit since then. Once Ida's passed I'll post an updated picture with all the fresh new powdery mildew. The other plant I kept, the weakest of the sprouts, has buds, so I suppose it won't be a total loss, but she has never been quite right. Always some kind of issue.

Looks like a nice sativa! I thankfully haven’t dealt with PM yet, I’ve got everything in pots so I move them inside whenever it rains haha.

Central is gonna be where it’s at for cannabis in Virginia. Richmond will be covered in pot shops like no other once it all gets worked out.
