First of all, beautiful bud porn pictures :) I do see what looks to be almost entirely milky trichs and (correct me if Im wrong, everyone) virtually no amber trichs on the buds. Sugar leaves will always produce trichs that are more mature than those of the budmass itself. This is why using sugar leaves to Guage trich maturity can be misleading. Given the absence of any amber trichs, I'd personally wait at least until a handful of amber trichomes emerge.

That is a debate that people have staked their lives on. I've tried both ways several times now with salt based nutrients and without. It ultimately comes down to personal preference so do a few runs trying both methods and see what you like. ;)

Many expert growers hit their goals in yield, taste and potency while flushing (I had fantastic results though I'm no expert). If you're hitting your goals and saving a week or two worth of nutrients, you're going to save a lot of money in the long run. Plus, less nutes equals better environmental impacts for our planet. I say do what works for you. This shouldn't be a debate anyway, he didn't ask whether or not flushing works, he asked for a timeline.

My man, great looking pics, love those milky trichs! I'd agree to wait for at least a tiny bit of amber but you can rest assured you've hit peak thc production imo so you can wait it out a bit or start flushing soon. Looking good!

Fair points. I'm mostly just excited to see data being compiled about cannabis growing so we're not just doing things "because we've always done it that way". We're able to see pros and cons with all of these techniques with hard evidence now.

Flushing might be a myth.
But I will never feed a plant until the end ever again. I tried it for several crops, just tapering it down to low levels but still feeding small amounts till the end and it negatively impacted the burn quality for me. As soon as I went back to the plain water finish the clean burn returned.
You may have different results. It's one of those things you need to try for yourself.

I'm also an exclusive joint smoker, use thin slow burning papers and only want to light my joint once. And I want white ash. I'm not sure if this matters but I do wonder if people who aren't flushing smoke bowls or some other form that doesn't depend on clean combustion and good heat retention.

My first thought is What does flushing mean to you? Flushing to me is back to back watering. I water/feed/water/feed/water ect through their life. When it comes to the end I Water Water then kill them, dry them and smoke them until they're gone.....Did I flush?

The belief in flushing assumes two things, both of which are demonstrably false:

1) that the plant has some accumulation of 'salts' in its tissues, and
2) that washing the roots with water can extract those salts.

Plants use fertilizer components as they are absorbed, and operate to absorb only what they need and can use. They do those via transport channels that attempt to limit uptake to the needed amount. These channels can get overwhelmed by too much in the growing medium, and then you get burn. Those channels work in one direction. The membranes exactly need to keep the fertilizer from going in the other direction or otherwise the plant would lose nutrients from regular watering. There are no fertilizer banks or storage vessels in the plant tissues.

To believe in flushing implies the belief that plants evolved this reverse transport mechanism. Why would a plant ever evolve this.

I remember years ago some guy going on about how he would never buy hydroponic weed because of the chemical taste. As he was putting my hydroponic weed that he had just purchased into his bag. I ran full strength up to harvest. Blind tests are incapable of detecting unflushed weed.

I like that. Flushing isn't the word I would use either,I prefer ripen whereas I stop some nutrients when getting close and use others to ripen even more gradually decreasing them until the last two weeks of plain water. I've ripened with NFTG to finish on at least 2-3 grows and it was excellent but I prefer just water to finish off. It really is a individual decision.

Flushing,flushing and flushing! The second debate only to give way to hydro or soil? Well you asked about a ripening time and that’s something I think we all can agee on. Looks like two weeks out to me from the pics, so plan accordingly for that time line. Just keep that microscope looking for the amber tri’s. I have grown and flushed in both hydro and soil. 3 days on the hydro and one, and two weeks on the soil. I couldn’t taste a different on either. I also get “white ash” with no flush at all. It is a individual preference on the whole flush theory. But do you really want to deny your plants food the final days of their harvest?

I think that properly drying and curing plays the much more pivotal role that flushing gets the blame with. Is flushing useless? I don't know, I'm not well enough equipped to say for sure yes or no. I can say that once phosphates enter a budmass, they're not leaving, excessively watering with RO or not. Personally I don't flush, I just stop feeding a day or two before chop (dwc) so that there isn't active, full strength nutrient solution draining to the tips of my buds as I hang my plants upside down for 7-14 days while I wait for them to dry enough to jar. If you're getting good results, do what you're doing, flushing or no, who cares. :)
