I feel you on our humidity. Struggling to keep the tent in mid 50s with dehumidifier at max load. Gonna end up going sealed after a few runs just to make environmental conditioning cheaper and easier. That and I can add CO2

Day 113 - Start of week 11 since flip - Start of weeks 9-10 of flower

I took a pretty good look at trichomes today and honestly they look about the same as last time, maybe fewer shiners or maybe just wishful thinking. Either way none of the trics are screaming that they're done.

I've seen other signs of progression though. The buds on my BBK 3 in particular seemed to fatten up over the week and she's having a hard time holding up those branches. Also seeing fewer white pistils, more browns laying down, etc.

I finagled it so all of the plants are on the same watering schedule again to keep things easy on me. Presently they're getting about two liters each about every 48 hours.

Yesterday was a downright miserable day 😖

At some point last week the drain tube from my dehumidifer slipped out of the window and has been emptying directly into the corner of my carpeted grow room. I'm sure most of you know exactly how much water these large dehumidifers can pump out in a short time, so this was not a minor issue. I didn't discover it sooner because I have two tables setup in that corner of the room with a bunch of stuff underneath. It only became apparent when the carpet near the center of the room became slightly damp... fucking hell.

I moved everything away from that side of the room and pulled up the carpet. I spent an hour sopping up all the water I could from the carpet and carpet pads with a bunch of towels. Then I washed and dried them and did it again. When I removed the central-air's floor-vent to pull up the carpet I found it was so damp in that area that a fungus was growing on the vent flaps... fucking hell.

I couldn't reliably add anymore fans to the room without tripping breakers or otherwise stressing circuits so I put two of my tent-fans on carpet-drying duty. I set the dehumidifier down to 40% which is as low as I'd want it with the grow still going. I'm hoping it will fully dry by the end of the day, but the high humidity we're getting isn't helping.

I moved my intake for the tents outside of the grow room for the moment. I wish I could avoid opening the tent until I get everything fully dry and lay down a tarp or something, but the crew definitely needs a watering this morning. I've settled for turning off every fan in the room, watering as quickly as seems prudent, and hoping for the best.

Maybe I need my own weed guardian... anyone have a spare wizard or naked Barbie they can spare?

... fucking hell.
Yea bro, sorry you had to learn the hard way. Always, always have a failsafe for shit that can go wrong. I've done entire grows in huge expensive bins for this exact reason, especially hydro, or flood tables. I've woke up to waterfalls going down to my neighbors b4, that woke me up. lol The woman is forgetful, and shit happens.

Same with electric, ventilation, you got to keep those limits plugged, and always under assessment. Bad things can and do happen.

That said, flowers look fantastic, you've obviously got your environment dialed in well. Keep it rolling.

Thanks man. I haven't cut any of them down yet and at least half of them of them are only standing because of you. If I listen close at light's-out I think I can hear them including you in their little green prayers.

Uh thanks but I'm an adult, man... I buy 1/2's 😅

Holy hell, water going down to the neighbors... all things considered maybe I got off lucky. Fortunately one of the things that did get through my thick skull is that I need to improve on ALL of the stuff you mentioned before a 2nd grow. I can lose a "crop" or ten but I'd rather keep the house.

Thanks man!!

Yea, live and learn, I suppose. Never do things like run more than one power strip from any one socket breaker either, very bad things can happen. People have lost homes, for real. Even burning all your wires in wall can cost your thousands, so yeah, no hair brained approaches if they can be avoided. lol 😂

If shit don't look right, smoke a joint and think about it a little. 😜
There's always more than one way to accomplish something, so it's just not taking the shortcut sometimes. Shortcuts are great IMO, but so is having less worries in life. There is a natural order to the world, I suppose.

Well said... both you and Einstein. 👍 I going to take that advice and make a big mistake today! That is what you meant, right?

Okay, maybe not a mistake so much as a commitment to the learning process. I realized this morning that if I don't start taking down some plants I'm just going to end up harvesting them all at once and won't get the benefit of experiencing the differences between a staggered harvest first-hand. That's the entire reason I bought the second tent to begin with, and with three of each pheno this seemed like a reasonable thing to do at this stage for the sake of my education.

In that spirit I put BBK #2 and GDP #2 (back-left and front-right respectively) in the dark dry-tent for at least 48 hours. I picked those two because they're showing more signs that they're finished than the rest - fewer white pistils (hardly any in fact), least amount of recent bud growth, and the highest percentage of cloudy and amber trichomes.

They were both watered yesterday and I typically water every 48 hours, so the time frame prior to chopping those two seemed pretty reasonable. They're not super wet but I'm going to keep the lung room humidity closer to 40% than 50% to avoid any last minute troubles in the dark. I also cleaned up one of my circulating fans with some alcohol wipes and put it in the dry-tent for some air circulation.

BBK #2 - Maybe I should have waited to remove the tie downs, lol. Someone's a little floppy.

They may all look mature but the two in the back still watch Sponge Bob Squarepants every afternoon.

Seriously though, they walked back the mature/immature idea a while back. Here's the law related to cultivation as it current stands, and in reading it I just learned something new - making concentrates at home is still illegal 🤯

“Home Cultivation” became legal on July 1, 2021. Adults 21 and over may now grow up to four marijuana plants per household (not per person), for personal use. Plants can be grown only at your main place of residence.

Someone who grows plants must:

  1. ensure that no plant is visible from a public way;
  2. take precautions to prevent unauthorized access by persons younger than 21 years of age; and
  3. attach to each plant a legible tag that includes the person's name, driver's license or ID number, and a notation that the marijuana plant is being grown for personal use as authorized by law.
It remains illegal to grow more than four plants, to sell or distribute marijuana grown at home, or to manufacture marijuana concentrate from home-cultivated marijuana. Individuals who chose to do so are subject to criminal penalties."

Also, now that I see how much real estate I have on the floor with only four plants in the tent I'm doubly sure I don't want to do six again. I think four plants with a slightly longer veg time would be perfect.

Hey Schwer,

Just read through your whole journal. I am also a VA grower and it makes me happy seeing your awesome first legal run. I am only 3 weeks into flower on a sub par run. But there is always next time.

Killer work

Oof, do you have a paypal account? I feel like I owe you wasting for your time. 😉

I just read through your whole journal as well and your run looks fantastic. If that's sub par I'd really like to see what you're normally putting out.

Either way, great to have another member of the VA crew 😎👍

Me when I hit the grow room this afternoon....

Tent269

My Blackberry Kush #2 and Grandaddy Purple #2 will have been sitting in the dark dry-tent for about 48 hours around noon today. I plan on chopping those two this afternoon and putting them on the hangers for the longest dry I'm able to manage.

To that end I'll be removing most of large fan leaves but otherwise cutting branches and hanging them as is. I'm going to drop the lung room temps from mid-high 60's to low-mid 60's and increase RH from 40-45% to ~60%. I'll have one fan in the dry tent on low, blowing along the back wall to maintain some airflow without directly blowing on the drying branches.

I still have to consider the four plants I have in the grow tent but I think 60% RH will still be okay at this point in the grow, especially since airflow in that tent just improved significantly (two less plants). Temps should be okay for all six plants as well. One concern is how much air my exhaust fan might be pulling through the dry-tent, and if pulling too much will result in a faster dry than I'm hoping to achieve. I might end up lowering the speed of my exhaust fan as long as I can keep humidity in the grow tent under control.

Putting the cart before the horse here, but when the dry is complete I plan to sweat them in some large paper bags and then put them directly into some Grove Bags for the cure.

Not to sound knowsey but my usual course of study is based on Dr. Doolittle, be a good noticer, at a glance I see 90f on the thermometer and some yellow leaves. Are you runnin that hot consistantly?

No no, I usually have them running at 110 F minimum. That's how you pre-dry them right? @GalaxysEdge said so.

Edit... and you weren't even talking to me. My bad, but damned if that comment didn't have me sweating for a sec and checking my temps. 😅

Carefull with them low temps in the dryin facility, my readin indicated 70f ish you don’t want a cold dank basement you want a comfy cozy albeit dark den with just a hint of air flow. Low and slow they will loose a lot of moisture right off the bat I have never hung mine more than 4-5 days and the brown bags really help slow things down but you wanna turn em often to keep things from clumpin together and dump em and let em air out periodically. I have my goodies out of the jars this mornin to air off just a little moisture when they feel slightly drier to the touch and the ”greenish” smell that developed in the jars sweetens back up I will return things to the jars. See, I've been so influenced by Mr. Cannuk's Grow and his seductive video editing. He dries for like 10-14 days.
