I like having a smaller light/area for the germination phase. Keeps the electricity cost down and removes the risk of frying seedlings with too much light. Something like a two-foot T5. I do my seed starts in peat plugs under that little light.

What are 6-10? And yeah the top dressing stuff sounds nice. Is that only for organic grows? I’m leaning towards chemical nutrients because I’m worried about pests, especially being in a basement. I’ll have to see what my local grow shop carries as far as soil. They are some kids who don’t grow the best so won’t be asking their opinions. I‘ll get a list and ask you guys haha.
6-10 part nutrients would be along the lines of Nectar of the Gods ... It requires you to use pretty much the whole nutrient line to keep your plants healthy. 2-3 part nutrient lines are far less complicated. Does this mean that Nectar of the Gods is junk? NO ... just a lot to keep track of when you're trying to keep things simple on your first run.

I also would encourage the 4 x 4 tent if space/money permits. A 3 x 3 would only hold a plant or two of the size I grow. The 4 x 4 would allow for up to 4 plants comfortably. Just my opinion here ....

Yeah but light travels through those shiny tubes like a mirror. And you need to filter the intake air. I use a furnace filter and box.
Are you running two intake vents to the box? I’m assuming you built it and would love to see a pic if you could post one to give me an idea?

I found $0.02 in my pocket... hell who am I kidding. I will probably be the reason they make a 2cent coin.

You want to Condition the air in the room that the tents sits in unless it a fairly large tent.

In a basement assuming it stays fairly cool? (Fill us in there) you prob won't need an AC but almost certainly should have a dehumidifier. I would say about 4 gal per day in a 3x3 would cover all the transpiration. So a 30 pint should do it for you. Don't try to run them under 50% they will not be efficient and will run almost nonstop.

Also in a basement you may need a heater and remember you want to heat the air in the room the tent sits not the tent itself. So you need on big enough to accomplish this. Of you have baseboard heaters (doubt it) that's perfect if not a good quality space heater with tip protection, preferably with a thermostat or you can use a temp controller. Personally I think inkbirds 306T is the best bang for buck and allows you to do day and night temps unlike the 308.

This one here.

These guys got ya covered and I think my $0.02 has run out.
It does stay fairly cool in the basement. Forced air not baseboard. I guess I’ll need to get this thing set up and run some light cycles to monitor heat and humidity base point...knowing it will change with pots in there, but maybe it’d give me an idea of what I’ll need to add or take away? The basement is finished and has a register in 2 of the rooms but not the workbench area where I plan to put the tent. There’s a wall in between workbench room and the rest of the basement not sure if it’s insulated but I’ll check. If I remember correctly this area would drop to around 58f, but right now is around 63 without the heat on. I’ll turn the heat on within the next week and get a better idea.

coast of maine or dr earth with ewc soil for soil
if you choice to make soil
equal part of peat moss, compost , perlite
if your completly new add extra perlite to your soil so you dont over water, even with ocean forest i add extra just to feed more often in flower
in a 3x3 what is your plan for how many you grow?
i have a 2x4x5 tent i grow in and 4 plants in 3 gal pots is stuffed full
I plan to grow 3 plants in 5 gallon smart pot fabric pots. Would have gone for 3 gallon but read that you should double the size for fabric pots. I don’t need large plants for yield because it’s only for myself and if I end up with one great plant out of the 3 I’d be very happy. It’s my understanding that fabric pots require more frequent watering so might be less likely to overwater...but I know overwatering is a common occurrence so hoping I can avoid it lol.

How long would you run the T5 before switching? or does that depend? I wouldn’t be opposed to swapping out the light when needed and doing seedlings under a T5.

i dont use them at all,but many swear by them, depend on your head room for your plants mate,my tent only 5 ft tall so when i flip to flower at 18 in tall,by the time i harvest they are 1 ft from lights and that is with a ton of tieing ,pinching and manipulating the light,so i wish you luck 1 plant in a 5 gal bucket would fill the 3x3 if you train it to bush

The tent height is 6’. I only grabbed the 5 gallons because they are fabric, maybe should rethink the pots though. I like the idea of not worrying about root bound issues too much so fabric sounded appealing, but haven’t started yet so can always shift gears if advised. Thanks!

Check out Mantis Buffered Nutrients. Its a one part nutrient system and is the easiest to use. It's buffered so it keeps the PH in optimal range so you won't need a PH pen. I haven't used one in 3 years since switching to Mantis. Literally all you'll need from seed to harvest. I would also get a oscillating fan or two. Scrog netting if you plan on doing that as well as garden wire if you plan on doing any training. Trimmers! Also maybe a humidifier and dehumidifier (these can always be purchased as you go if needed)!
Hmm.....sounds too good to be true, and ya know what they say lol. I looked this stuff up and it sounds awesome. But, what’s the catch? Is there a downside to using this compared to other methods? If not, we should all be using it lol.

The price lol.
you could do it cheap and easy this way.

No catch. Gotta try it to believe it I guess. Like I said I've been using it for 3 years and haven't had a issue due to nutrients in 3 years :) A bottle can fully get me through 4-6 plants seed to harvest.

I keep my seedlings in the germination area (plugs, then solos, under the 25W T5) four weeks, minimum. When I have cups full of roots and plants approaching the width of a 1 gallon pot, it's time to move to the veg tent, with my veg light at the top of the tent at 25% power.

I think at this point my two main concerns (with nutrients) are PH issues and salt buildup (which Mantis could eliminate) I’m still looking into how to spot and fix those issues so it’s still a scary thought at the moment. The Mantis is expensive but could cut out a lot of room for error for my first grow or two...although it’s hard to believe that it’s results can compare to traditional methods.

I can’t find much info on it either. Saw a grow with it in a forum but quality is tough to judge in a photo, especially a lower res photo on a forum. I’d be willing to switch my gears to a medium that this would work the best in if it actually produces great quality flowers. Hoping @Jakecan will pop in with some details. Or anyone else that’s used it?

How’s the end product as far as terpenoid content, cannabinoid content, bud structure? I realize other things play a part too...but I’m definitely curious about this stuff. Capable of top shelf end product?

wait...do they sell it in the US? Lol

A bottle of dyna bloom is 1/3 the price and lasts twice as long. You literally pay 6 times more to grow with mantis. No way I'm gonna spend more on nutes than I do electric.
