Hello so I recently was using ro water and my ph would stay perfect once I set it to my correct ph. Now I switched to a tall boy dechlorinator instead of ro water. My water ppm is 130. When I fill my resivor and add nutes then correct my ph to 5.7 a few hours later it will go back up to 6.1 then I ph down it again to 5.7 a few hours later at 6-6.1 again. I am using advanced nutrients ph down. Any ideas on what to do? Never had this problem with ro water. Only dechlorinated tap water

Water temperature?
Air stone in?
how fast it changes?
make a try for 24h if doesn't stabilize than some minerals is there that caus the issue, with out proper water lab test no one can tell you exactly what's going on.

Why you switched from RO?

Yes airstone. And within 2-3 hours it rises up a few points.

as I said, with out proper lab test no one can answer it, check after 24h if still not stable back to RO, I assume you use advanced nutrition to?
From basic info some minerals in your water that cause the instability...

Sounds like your tap water has a decent amount of alkalinity. Think of alkalinity as your water's ability to resist changes in pH.

What medium are you growing in?

Your nutrients may be precipitating out of solution after that long of time. I add my nutes to tap water and wait 20 minutes to check…. No longer, chemical reactions take place. Be sure you are adding one nutrient at a time in the bucket of water, don’t add the nutes directly to one another THEN dump it into your water.

my tap comes out 7.5, then a day later will be 8.0. I have given it a few days sitting out and didn’t help so now I have a bucket that has been sitting out a week, gonna see if it will stay down after lowering.

I have an r/o also but don’t use it because it puts 3 gallons down the drain for every gallon I get and I’m not a fan of that.

You can add a permeate pump to make your RO system 80 percent more efficient.

I know Bluelab Ph pens specifically state NOT to use RO water with them.

Maybe your Ph pen could be the same hence the differences in readings?

Arrrgh just read your post again please ignore my comment. 😇😌

Hey so the air stone is gonna be good for putting air into the water which in turn evaporates more, try using a small pump to stir the water not put air in it.

First, try a declorinator. You probably have Chlorine in your tap water and it does this. Years ago I moved, and i was having this very issue. The de chlorinator was suggested to me and it worked perfectly. It’s cheap and goes a long way.

Run your air stone for an hr and then take that out as it only takes about and hr to dechlorinate your water then put a small pump in to continue mixing nutrients

Let's not start disinformation. They are saying it's hard to measure pH in RO water, not that you shouldn't use their pens.

Here is the Bluelab statement on RO: https://support.bluelab.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000111415-ro-water

What they are saying is that RO water, like distilled, doesn't have enough ions to actually measure pH correctly without expensive high-sensitivity equipment. Adding a bit of calmag to the water to introduce some ions allows pH to be measured much more easily.
