we're coming up on year four being officially together. marriage isn't on the table, i personally don't believe in that institution. it's the tumultuous period now, the make or break time for a relationship. we do try to keep things exciting though.

That institution is largely theater anyway. For most court and family law purposes, you're just as on the hook in a common law situation as you are married.

luckily common law in washington state doesn't kick in until year seven, for what that's worth. not that i've done in depth research or anything. like i said, tumultuous times.

Wow.. here I think it's a matter of months lol. Like 6 mo with a child. 2 years without or something ridiculous. Havent looked into it. But it's not 7 years here. That's far too sensible. 5 years is the make it or break it.

iirc it's not even technically common law. there's only a handful of states with common law anymore. it's just when the state will recognize a couple as being in a domestic partnership, so legally they can file paperwork and share insurance policies and shit. even then, without the paperwork as far as the state is concerned, y'all just roommates that fuck every once in a while and they don't want any part of that domestic shit.

I think there are still 2 or 3 places left that all you have to do is spend the night together and you are wed. Bayou country is one....
