Though I am not confident... I took the LED leap...

Replacing my 2 x 1000w HPS with 2 x SF4000 in a 5 x 8, will use flat white panels to "shrink" my room down to 4 x 8 during flower, maybe, if feasible.

I am not that confident, but, am hopeful.

I ran 2 x 1000w hps for 19 years in the same room, and on year 2 with 2 roi 680 watt LED’s. No comparison, I even sold 1 hps now, kept 1. Don’t know why, more sentimental I guess.

It was a learning experience at first.

Same here, I've been growing under HPS since the 80's....

I just got our "newly adjusted electric bill"... It went from $250 a month to $600... Though they haven't read our meter in a long time, we live in the middle of no where. So, meter readers get scared to come up my drive way. "Big dogs scare me" and all... anyway... The new electric bill has forced my hand.

Normally I was only running the 1000w. and getting between 12 and 15 ounces...every 60 days, a few weeks ago I expanded with another 1000w hps and another 5x4.. Then the electric bill came. So.. I said "fuck it" and spent the money to get the 2 LED.

I'm excited, a little concerned about the learning curve but feel experienced enough that I can handle any problems that crop up.

It's too bad that they don't make "screw in LED" bulbs for these 1000w hps. It'd be nice to be able to still use them.

I changed everything to led and cut my bill in half. In the winter I have to add heat, so not much of a savings in winter for me.

Thats exactly what I do.... Without the HPS it stays about 50 degrees down there. The HPS warms up my DWC buckets and keeps them at JUST the right temperatures.

I run a pellet furnace in the basement to offset the heat for the whole house as I normally heat with woodstove on the 2nd floor but that's not enough to heat the basement and at night time, I let the woodstove burn out, and then pellet stove kicks on at 69... Keeps the basement about 65.

Questions:

1. LED and Light movers.... I don't see anyone using them, I am assuming there is a reason?

2. What is the light "over lap" like when running multiple lamps , I am assuming and have read that at the edges of these lights that the quality of the light falls off pretty dramatically.. So am wondering if I tilt them a bit towards each other so that the plants "share" both lights and double the light received at point of bud.... how effective would doing this be with LED's or is it just wishful thinking?

3. I am assuming that vegetative at 5 x 5 and flowering at 4 x 4 is because the light distance from the top of the plants does not effectively go beyond the tops of the plants themselves, so because of distance between light and plants it cuts off the light to the 5x5 space? is this strict guidelines or can I stretch it out to 5 x 5?

Technically my space is 5 x 8.. I got 2 sf4000's because I read multiple places that 1 would do up a 4 x 4... So assumed 2 would be able to do 4 x 8, and maybe 5 x 8 ?

I run all my lights at a slight angle but bro science it may be and I don't have big boards like some....i got big bars tho...haha. Anyhow you should be fine with a slight angle but you probably don't need to. Mostly the light mover is unneeded because the spread on the diodes is far apart and doesn't have as many hot spots (depending on the light).

Depending on where you live, that should save around $50/month. After 2 years they paid for themselves.

Ah there's the catch.....Will they still be working in 2 years? hps mechanical ballast last for 20 years...just replace the lamp annually. Will the led lights last is the question I have....I've had 2 digital hps ballast blow on me in 2 years I'm back to mechanical....I have an se 3000 ..and love it. I want another....$500 ...I'm just nervous about their longevity.....new shit just doesn't seem to last like the old shit.

I will admit. I have a 480watt by mars and I think 10 more watts per sqft would of been better for my 4x4 im at 30 watts a sq ft if I had 40 watts I could see my nugs being way denser. It was only my first grow ever it wasnt fluffy by any means but it wasn't dense n tight.

I’m leaning to the reason it was cause it’s led. Mmm don’t get me wrong I’m still likeing my sf4000. But I’m starting to think a hps might make nugs denser . Mmm

Do you have a HPS ? Could be just from being a coco medium too... lots of variables

Cus I know a guy with HPS and he does Hydro and we all know hydro is just super fluffy.. so maybe from my coco medium

Nah I don’t and never have used one

My results from sf4000. I also have a sf7000 but the drivers make the 4x4 tent to hot

I’m running just over %80 intensity . At end of week 6 flower . Should the light have been more at %100?

Nope you have that backwards.... there''s a couple of us here that are die hard hps growers but we both had the same experience. @Dirtbag after being gifted an SE 3000 and growing the same plants at the same time 2 Bubble Bomb under my 1000w hps and 1 under the Se3000 the led won hands down......harder bigger and better smoke.....I'm ready to bite the bullet and buy another led and store away my hps.....although I've had to add a heater to my flower room now so its not going to be cheaper in the winter than my hps.

Get the sf7000 the driver gets red hot and bears the whole room . It was a bit overkill for my 4x4 so it’s back in the box . Won it here from spider farmer
