Hi All.
Can anyone give me advice on LED lighting for my tent.
I am new to growing using a 1m x1m grow tent.
For my first grow I used a 600w hps bulb so you can imaging these last couple of months the heat in the tent got to 32°c plus my electric bill is shocking
I want an LED system to be able to have better control of the heat,.
Can any one tell me what wattage system I need to be looking for, I only grow 2 plants at a time so to avoid over crowding.
Also can anyone advise me on a good (not to expensive) lighting system
Thanks you all

First, what's your budget?

Second, with LED the general rule of thumb I've read is anywhere from 25-45W per square foot (depending on a lot of other factors).

Since you have a 1m x 1m tent we're looking at ~10 square feet. I would aim for at least 300W or there about.

In my 2x4 (8 Square feet) I run an HLG 300L Rspec. It's a bit pricy at $450 USD, but my goodness is it a wonderful light. It's got full dimmer control, and plenty of PPFD. Comes in at ~270W. Only issue for you would be the foot print, the light is designed for rectangular tents (2x4, 3x5 etc). You could find a 200W square light, Spider Farmer and Mars both offer decent lights for there. They'll be slightly underpowered, but should get the job done. You could also look at a Spider Farmer SF4000, which is a 450 watt light. I have this and run it in a 4x4 (16 square foot) and it works very well. This would likely be slightly over powered for your grow, but it has a dimmer.

Your 600W HPS was actually about spot on for your previous grow environment. Welcome to the world of environment control!

I would recommend Kingbrite. I have had great success with all light products they offer. I also recommend getting one that has CREE or Epistar and has UV function. Also you would pay basically dollar for dollar. If you need guidance on process feel free to dm

I would also recommend kingbrite. I have not compared those to the more expensive ones like black dog but I have the impression that the difference aint worth it in dollars.

Maybe its worth it if you are a very experienced cultivator with a good cashflow.

But I have the impression black dog is like g8 or what they were called. Winners of cannabis cups etc but it seems like its more of a marketing thing than a quality thing.

Dont pay premium for marketing is my opinion.

Also consider if you want to have customer service in your country for repairs or if you view them as disposables.

If you view them as disposables that are switched out every 3-5 years or what it is, I think is a better way to look at things compared to thinking you will run this light for 10 years.

Because build quality and light quality steadily improve.

Look for Samsung 301h / lmb301 chips. Look at par readings

Agree Kingbrite is actually a major leader in LED lighting. UV , 3500K. The expensive LED lighting sold on American soil when you review were made overseas.

I have a that same sized tent and I'm using the Spiderfarmer SE3000 in it, after my first run with it I bought another. I have been flowering with a 1000w hps & I got bigger harder better buds off the SE3000 than m,y hps. In Canada I paid $400 & no added tax...not sure how they get away with that but bonus to me. I like the light and its a good price for the quality of build.

Going to be running an SE 7000 in that space starting in couple weeks here.

Imo unless running co2 25-30 watts per square foot is a good place to be.

The advantage of running a strip light is they can be run much closer so they are perfect for a tent with limited height. They also provide a very nice even coverage which is very important

Here is a nice little guide to help in choosing a grow light that best fits your budget and space. Word of warning. LEDs are very powerful. 25-30w per square foot is a good place to start. Too much will fry your plants ... and do it quickly without much signs of damage until it's already occurred.

But if or when you get everything dialed in, watch out!! 🌿🌿🌿

Are you saying i would get the same yield if I turned down the 720w led to 480w in the 4x4 given i dont use co2?

Possibly but not definitely. A 720w would be more than needed and the plant’s probably wouldn’t handle it at full intensity.

480w maybe max them and may not. It also depends in the fixture efficiency and style. A 480w steip light from SF should give you all you need without co2.

Thanks for the solid reply man that is aqua. I am lollin a little bit at myself now. I had a 480w light in the 4x4 earlier but upgraded to 3x240w. Feels a little dumb now given i dont use co2.

I dont run them at max and its nice to have the option to have different hanging heights for different plants.

Could probably do just as well with 2x240w.

I think I got bit by the gear-bug or something

480 watts is 480 watts. Granted the efficiency is another topic ... but ... imo the two 240w lights has some distinct advantages over one 480 fixture. There's not a thing wrong with running multiple lights. My SF4000 uses two 240w meanwell drivers on one heatsink. The footprint is different but the draw is the same whether its mounted in one fixture or two.

Thats true. I just feel a little stupid going with guns blazing when I could have done just as well with lesser.

But I did not like the concentration of light in the middle with the 480w i had

Exactly what I've found with my SF4000. It's too hot in the middle of the board despite the LED pattern's attempt to minimize it. I'm pulling it out of my tent once my current run is finished and I'm going back using my ROI-E720 with two 240w quantum boards to fill a 54" x 98" x 78" tent.

At least in your case with 3 boards, you can use 2 and keep one on the shelf as a backup in the event something happens to one of the other lights.

I also have a 480w thats not in use.

Doesnt fit in neither of my spaces so. Silly thing

Have been wondering about modding it into two 240s but I am no electrician
