Here is some proof for Mudballs. Tomatoes are dicots that don't accumulate much Si. Silica increased yield significantly.

https://www.researchgate.net/public...in_Response_to_Soil_Drenching_of_Silicic_Acid

Although the role of silicon (Si) in enhancing crop performance has been proven in many field crops including rice, wheat, sugarcane and soybean, its influence on Si non-accumulator crops like tomato is very much limited. In order to evaluate the effect of silicic acid on tomato, a field experiment was conducted during summer 2018. The experiment consisted of with and without silicic acid treatments to test the efficacy of silicic acid soil drenching on yield, quality and nutrient content of tomato.

The results revealed that soil drenching of silicic acid @ 4 ml L-1 at 15, 30 and 45 days after planting significantly increased the yield attributes, viz. number of fruits per plant (41.42 ± 2.77), fruit yield per plant (2.34 ± 0.05 kg) and fruit yield per hectare (86.66 ± 1.74 t) over control. Silicic acid soil drenching significantly enhanced the quality parameters in tomato.

The total soluble solids (TSS) and lycopene content of tomato significantly improved with drenching of silicic acid @ 4 ml L-1 over control from 3.55 ± 0.23 to 4.23 ± 0.21 Brix and 4.65 ± 0.66 to 6.34 ± 0.22 mg 100 g-1 fruit, respectively, but significantly decreased the titratable acidity (0.45 ± 0.08 per cent) of tomato over control (0.63 ± 0.03 per cent) and enhanced major and micronutrients contents apart from Si. Thus, soil drenching of silicic acid @ 4 ml L-1 has found to be a novel way to enhance yield, quality and nutrient content of tomato.

Sorry for providing the facts that were requested to support my claims.

I did some more research and OP from 2016 might be right about NOT using it during bloom, but not for the reason they thought. Most benefits happen during veg. Using it in bloom might be a waste. Cannabis was not studied.

How early do you start and how long into flowering?

I start feeding Si one week after sprout. I have been using it for most of bloom except for the last week or two. Might try stopping it when the stretch is done this time.

You realize that the plant never takes up silica right? Microbes provide it to the roots at the request of the plant producing exudates... While I agree cannabis quality continues to decline as the green rush sees no end, but this post seems to lack any facts based in science. Most of the growers I know cut silica just after the half-wy point through flower. Growers using pure organics may use things like rice hulls/carbonized rice hulls/biochar as their silica source and certainly don't sift it out of the soil before the flip.
Yeah same here, I see value in giving the plant silica up until the half way point, the plant grows a minimum of 30% more whilst in Flower, why not make it strong?

Saw another person mention the plant doesn't take up Silica, can we expand on this?

You tried to shape the narrative to suit you...i did not take the approach you are claiming...i never said it wasnt a biostimulant did i? I never said it didn't have benefits...DID I?!
sick you little keyboard warriors rapid typing ur way thru stupid...yeah stfu peat phreak i know you from Rollitup and that thread you just couldn't stfu on...i even tried to fkn help you on RIU by private messaging you and saying "hey dont get trolled man, you have a good rep so far"...you ignored me, got ur ass fkn handed to you on RIU cuz of that same attitude and now ur here reading into shit that aint saying what you want it to say....pft you grow great plants, but you suck at participating in forums.
Can’t believe you admit to being one of the riu squad. And you sound just like it

Hello,

I've noticed a growing problem with cannabis the last few years and it's reaching a peak I really don't care for. Growers are using liquid silicon and silica during flower. This is so, so wrong, seriously decreasing end quality of the flowers.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE silicon for cannabis. I use it extensively in veg and during stretch for massively strong branches and a superior vascular tissue system for transpiration. Awesome benefits for cannabis plants, just before flower.

During flower? Please don't do this. Cannabis has zero need for silica, when producing flowers. It adds toughness (Ever *Have* to reach for a grinder or scissors to break up flowers?) and heat (smoke a microchip some day) and diverts plant resources that should be producing terpenes and cannabinoids.

Don't believe me? Flower out one plant with zero silica/silicon during flower, vs your regular silica/silicon fed plants. You'll be surprised at how easily the flowers break up and how much smoother/cooler the smoke is.

Cannabis is frangible. Highly frangible. You should be able to *gently* press a bud against the side of your bowl and have it break into a crumbled pile of frosty bits. You'll then be able to easily pull out a single main stem (no branches) and push the pile into your bowl. This is how clean cannabis performs. :)

Cannabis is truly a unique and amazing plant...

I usually go to week 6 in flower then stop.i give them half strength daily which is 10ppm.i changed from pottasium silicate as @Anthem told me the microbes need to break it down for it b taken up so i changed to the more soluble version in mono silic and what i have noticed growing same strain is the quality of the buds are much better

Anthem is correct. Potassium Silicate needs to be metabolized by microbes before the plant can uptake mono silicilic acid. It's a slow process and specific microbes need to be present for this to even happen. Meanwhile the silicate will accumulate raise the pH of the media.

So it's better to deliver mono silicilic acid directly to the plant. This form of bioavailable silica doesn't raise the media pH and the plant can uptake it immediately.

You're exactly right I was just talking to my buddy and we're commenting on this sour diesel and and I can barely get through it with the scissors now there's now compared to a decade ago you could crumble it in your fingers and and they keep using it because some reason they think Gives the plants more of an immunity to pests and things like that I'm blaming on YouTube It's not scientifically proven or anything like that it'sThey're just believable or they believe them because they sell it I've been consulting for the last year down in Oklahoma and I just about fell over when he told me he was using silica all the way through his flowering cycle Is what most people think it's like paint by numbers Everybody gets worried about yield and I THC Maybe I should just get Gucci to sponsor my Flower Then people would pay attention and you could teach them the right way Whatever it is just keeps getting worse I think it's because most people are inherently lazy and they take the past the least resistance so whatever products they can put on the plants that create less work for them or they think it creates less work they do I spent a year there and it's the worst flower on the planet It's so bad that they process the stuff and create diamonds and they sell it for $5 a gram If that tells you anything Retail at dispensary I will never go back there again And then they get mad that they can't paint by numbers There is no one pot for growing cannabis I had one guy who thought he had to water the flag the plants the same amount when they're just putting them into flower as you did in week 7 of the flowering stage All convoluted byIf we're trying to get the most views rather than promoting good practices Is they promote whatever gets some of the most clicks I'm 50 I learned a grow when i was 14 from my good good friend's father who learned from his Uncle this guy was able to grow plants in his backyard in a suburban the verbin yard with neighbors you could spit out your window and hit their house He knew how to hide it in the foliage of other plants I don't know Technology has really advanced the industry but what plants need and what they require doesn't it doesn't change it never and the gene pool has been so degerated from people trying to come up with the latest and greatest strain When you think you're really getting a certain strain you're really not I've seen where I've gotten from reputable dealers double dealers right I've gotten the same strain 5 seeds indeed and have 5 Different plants they don't even look similar Because there's 0 checks and balances so it's all on your honor People just make shit up I guess anything for a dollar Sorry for venting
