will polarized sunglasses protect my eyes against LED lights ?

i have a freind in the UK who never use to wear glasses in his grows and he developed what i could describe as a small water filled spot on his eye ball from the HPS lights . his doctor said to him that he had never seen it before on someone so young :)

do ordinary sunglasses protect the eyes or are there specialized glasses to wear to protect ourselves from the rays from LED lights ?

Check out Method Seven. They make glasses for grow lights. I just turn my lights all the way down or off and use a phone/flash light.

I don’t look directly at my lights when they are on. I wouldn’t wear Sunglasses in my grows unless I’m putting out a lot of UV light, which I don’t. But that’s just me. I understand the concern though. Our eyes only come as a pair and when gone they are gone.

Polarization does not help with UV. But, the vast majority of polarized lenses also have a UV filter as they tend to be more expensive with better build.

I have a "Maintenance Mode" where I push a button and the lights are dimmed to a preset value and UV is turned off. After the timer, they go back to normal. Perhaps you can do that too?

I bought a pair of the blue led protective glasses, If I spend a lot of time in and around my grow area with led lights I can get stinging eyes at night if I don't use them. I'll take drops of Visine or like to sooth my eyes in the evening.....it reminds me to use the dam things more often.

Good question, just switched to LEDs, damn they're bright, I have been thinking I need grow room glasses.

Maybe I'll start wearing my welding helmet in there lol.

Putting on glasses that block light but not UV can actually be harmful if UV is present, it has the effect of dilating your pupils allowing more UV in than if you just use safety squints.

Is that what it’s called for us no glass wearer’s. Safety squint, lol.

I just don’t look up at the lights, my plants ain’t growing from the ceiling.

I have the MS glasses.
I too, dim light to lowest settings and never look directly at them.
I also use the glasses time to time.

I haven't been using protective glasses. I don't think I spend enough time looking at the tent to matter. Maybe I should think about it though. Anyway, AC Infinity sells them for $26.
