From what im reading it can be done both ways? Can you elaborate on some of the specifics of the study and the reasoning?
On manicbotanix are several articles on Coco explaining the problem with different studies.
Unfortunately, the page is currently down, so I can not look up the sources.
There was a study comparing coco and peat. It showed that Ca and Mg were present in the drain in lower amounts and K, S and Na in higher amounts than in the peat drain.
It can also be explained logically, since coco is still slowly weathering further and ions that were previously firmly bound are released.

No run off in my coco grows. Using Gaia Green and other amendments I don't care to wash away.

Then it might be interesting to know why it doesn't cause any problems for you, although the old best practice that one has to work on coco with drain can also be explained by studies and logically.
Coco has a low CEC (cation exchange capacity) so it does not hold onto nutrients as well as something like soil so we feed with every watering to keep a balanced nutrient ratio, ph and ppm in the coco. To do so we also need to flush out some of the last feed with each feeding to prevent a nutrient buildup which can affect all of these. THINK OF COCO AS SOILESS... much closer to hydro and very similar to rockwool.

I turned down my Scorpio diablo to 50% and have it 26 inches up. I'll post up some pictures in the morning. I think when you water it's pulling in oxygen but when I feel down in the middle it's still very wet in there. I used canna right from the bag. My first mistake. I've always used bricks that rinse down and double buffer with 7.5mg calmag per Gallon of soak water. Soaked overnight then dumped and soaked in a new high strength calmag solution. I thought everyone using canna and it says pre buffered on the bag even, that I'd be ok. First time I've seen Deficiencies and first time using such a small amount of perlite. Alot of firsts on this grow. HID light user new to led without apogee light sensor or a pulse one that has it so I have no idea what my ppfd is at all. I'm using hlg par maps and adjusting things according to that and what the plants are telling me. Almost 6 nodes and they're packed tight. So dimming it more should help them grow up at least. Lol. Thick stocks though from all those blue photons. Need more far red to elongate those stems some. Sorry tired and rambling. I'll try to remember to post up pictures when I get off this 12 hr over night shift.

I have no science to back it but my plants just seem happier under HID. I tried the LED thing for Atleast 2 years and just wasn't happy. Back to 2 cheap 600w ipower MH/hps and have seen the greasiest buds yet lol. Probably something to do with the heat the HID provides.

Just get the 1000w ones and dial them down to the 600w setting. Its 185 for the 6 inch with decent hood. Im sure ur at 145 or 150$ right?

I read dimming your lights diminishes the efficiency of them...not sure if that's true. I already have the 2x 600w HIDs, so not spending money anymore lol. Just bought a house so basically just trying to be frugal on my grows for a bit.

I get that for sure. I am working on an open room environment in a different building and feel ill be able to use the 1000w then. Im sure its not as efficient running them at 600w in my 4x4s. . . but oh well lol. I hadnt realized you already had them.. . mbb

Yeah for sure...when I was in a smaller area I def used the LEDs because I didn't have the headspace. Now that I have more ceiling height I feel much more comfortable with HIDs as they keep my cold room nice and perfect temp/rh.

That was my second test in growing. I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't run off daily and did one clone just weekly. There was negligible difference in yield and the plant remained healthy throughout the grow. I've switched to hempy since. Want to do DWC but my summer temps can't handle it.

What ppm/ec did you feed throughout

That's actually unknown. I didn't realize that my TDS meter was broken (cheap yellow one) and I had to see where my plants weren't burning or deficient to gauge feed. I do recall that it was around 1/2 what GH suggested. I also had to lower the feed because my temps were 84f and 40%RH - I can't follow VPD in my room so I have to adjust feed as the environment changes. The meter was at least consistent though and kept me where I needed to be. It was after that second grow that I got a dr meter (better) and then an Apera.

I run the Gavita pro 750 they reckon it’s as efficient dimmed as it is on full bore regards to spectrum and it’s just a beast of a light not quite a 1000 or 600 bit in between seems a lot whiter light than the single ended hps👍

When I was working for a licensed grow op they had seven 40 light bloom rooms. They used Gavita Pro 1000DE's. Great light that yielded really well.

Yea I only run a 2.4x2.1 grow tent I’m pretty sure the 1000de needs about 5 foot of head room😂 would love to have the room to try 1 day👍

Wow! How do you keep the heat down? Those double endeds put out a lot of heat.

The LGO I was at was a project that I got into from the inception. I found the location through a commercial real estate friend, suggested it to some hedge fund/VC buddies I knew from college and they found the financing and built it. It was pretty crazy. All the veg and flower rooms were meat lockers modified for weed cultivation. They had a kitchen for baking edibles and four 40 ft containers that were outfitted to be complete extraction labs in each container.

This is what it looked like the day they had closed escrow!

I live in a place called Tasmania it’s an Island at the bottom of Aus heat really isn’t the problem here it’s the cold I do shut the flower tent down for a month in the middle of summer which is January here I do try and keep my plants low and the light is at the top of my tent with about 3.5 feet to the canopy I have 2 extraction fans/carbon filters and a hyper fan inlet which helps I have a swamp cooler aircon to but don’t ever use it I do get slight canoeing of the top leaves towards the end of flower but other than that they are sweet✌️
