Well that was a fail. Either the weed is too old or I'm doing it wrong. Maybe I didn't clean it enough... I dunno looked like 99% trichomes under the loupe. Are you supposed to re clean what's under the final screen? I have no idea what I'm doing. I was aiming to make a temple ball, but it wasn't melting so I just threw it in the puck press. Maybe I gave up too soon. I saved the material cause I wasn't overly thorough. Maybe next time I'll try with this year's weed. Used about a qp of shake and larfy bud. Got 4 grams of pucks. Fail. ok well kinda hard to tell what/if you did incorrectly, it’s not the weed, you work the weed on top screen, than you put that weed and screen aside, now on 3rd screen basically your trying to get the heads that got stuck in the plant material to fall through to the next screen, so a very light sifting or use a card/hands to lift and drop, done that screen put weed/screen aside, do exactly the same with the next screen, be gentle but same process getting heads to fall through with little plant material, done that screen, now the last screen, so for me before i would touch what’s on that screen i’d move aside and collect what’s on table, than put screen back and depending on the amount you can start to clean it or remove some and do a bit at a time..
so if your trying to make a temple ball style than you only use the heads from cleaning on the 75 screen..,
just keep playing around you’ll get your own methods for different styles of hash you want..
you could use a lighter close to one of those pucks but not touching it, close enough to see if it bubbles/melts or just burns black.
and what happened hot bottle pressing? looks like just holding bottle in one spot? looks like it started to melt?,

It started to melt but then stopped. I think the pile that was well cleaned melted and the stuff that needed another cleaning did not. I was moving it around rolling pin style and light pressure, pretty much trying to do what you were doing and what dankduchess was doing in her vids... We smoked some on top of some bud in my bubbler and got pretty stoned, it didn’t melt per say, but it stayed burning till it turned to ash. Also smoked some in a joint with some bud and it smoked well, nice and slow. I'll do some more this week when my kid is in school, I was kind of rushing because he was home and I wanted to try some before my extended new years resolution break... jury is out on how that's gonna go lol.

of course what you got gets you stoned, no matter how you look at it or expecting what to get you condensed the heads compared to plant material..

That's good to know. Should have just melted the stuff in the bowl that I collected with a glove instead of mixing everything. I looked with the loupe and it looked like mostly trichomes, but clearly not enough for full melt. How long would you say you need to work it with the bottle, assuming you have properly cleaned stuff and considering it's over a year old? Also, is it best to move from a cool environment for sifting to a warmer environment for pressing? I'm not opposed to using a couple ounces from this year either, I'm determined to make a damn temple ball. Also, how long are you supposed to let them age... just in case I manage to make one lol.

yes it’s preferred to be pressing in a warm or room temperature area..
aging like wine longer the better, but you need an absolutely smooth surface completely over the ball, no lines or cracks..
you want that outer surface to be sticky like oil before storing is best..

What happens if you take what's under the final screen and dump it back on top of the final screen and do the glove thing? Will you catch some trichs, or does all just fall back through? Gonna have another go this week, have some jars in the chest freezer now. Guess I shouldn't complain, everyone that has tried it has gotten blitzed and we're all a bunch of stoners.

I should wait until I'm ready to make it but it's obviously such a cool thung to do......

Would it be worth it to buy some sort of a press? I don't know how much would be the right amount for some of a reasonably sized grow.......20 grams? 30? But a nice strong press.......does it even require heat? Let the press itself do the work...... And aging? I would think that once it's made and pressed, unless you're preserving it well, the potency and flavor is as good as it's gonna get.........I'm assuming of course that the hash will be made from already very well cured flower.

I watched Gnick in one of the videos in this thread do just that. Got quite a few more resin heads collected as I recall. And then what was left on the table was for discard or whatever.

By George, I think I've done it! I made a temple ball! It's not very big, but I'm calling it a success regardless. Also got 6 pucks from the stuff under the final screen.
Started with a QP of last year's larf, I gotta say it smelled pretty darn good for larf over a year old. Dried it for a few days and put the chest freezer for 2 days. Did 2 runs of 2 ounces on the top screen then proceeded to the next screen. Before crushing:

The pucks held together better last time when I didn't steal all the heads, but my goal was a temple ball, so I'm ok with it. This will be my treat after my tolerance break, I'll make a bigger one to cure for an extended period. Hopefully the pucks still get the job done.

Very nice. That would probably last me 2+ months so I'd have no problem devoting a QP to it. Can I ask where you got your screens? Also, I don't get the rubber glove/roller thing......the roller technique? Now wrap tightly in cellophane and put it away for a year. That will give you the best results.

Also, I don't get the rubber glove/roller thing......the roller technique? I would think just collect the trichs using a card or something, and press it......maybe with a little water mist to help?

I got the screens on Amazon for a little over a hundo. The glove rubbing against the screens creates static that holds the trichs to the nitrile glove, you use a card to gently move the material around on the first 3 screens, then the glove the separate the trichs from the plant matter on the last screen, that's how you get almost entirely trich heads to get a full melt for a temple ball. You can't manually separate the stuff cause the plant matter is in tiny pieces by that point. Watch through some of GNick's videos earlier in this thread, he explains it better.

Also, it wasn't a QP I was ever going to smoke, larf, trim, shake from about a year and 3 months ago that I saved for butter... until I discovered making hash lol.
