The weird thing is I just opened up a bag of a popular soil company soil and found these tiny balls in there. I contacted them but they said it was fungi. Now 5 days later this seedling has a bug on it. It's been under a baggie it's whole life. What else could it have come from if not the soil?

Here's the bug

The seedling. I can tell under a microscope it's being eaten.

Thanks for any help guys.

Looks like a thrip but last i knew, they didnt leave webbing. That also doesnt look like fungi but more like eggs from something. Personally, id cut my losses now and just start over completely fresh.
I did with that seedling. I've got 3 more im going to watch closely. They're in the same room but in a different tent. I just wanna try to see what I can learn from watching. But i don't think I'll take it too far. Gonna work on finding new soil and starting over. It's difficult to find good soil where I live. This sucks too. I've been waiting months to grow these cannarado seeds. Sucks

Thanks for the reply

Edit: I don't think it's webbing I think it's like slug goo.

Honestly doesn't matter what it is. It's not good and it seems like the soil is certainly contaminated. Bugs can multiply fast. Sucks about losing the seeds, but sometimes tough decisions are necessary. I wouldn't wait to see what the adults look like. I would certainly get rid of that soil. Hopefully you only bought one bag of it.

What are the plants currently in? Container size? What soil is it? Any chance of drenching the soil those plants are in with an insecticide and then transplating them into new soil? An Azamax root drech will kill just about any insect. That can be sprayed as well. Pyrtherin based insecticides is another good option if you think it's worth trying to keep those plants alive.

They're in a solo cup. It's fox farm happy frog. I'm okay with throwing everything out. It's only 3 seedlings and 1 bag of dirt. I hate losing the seeds but I would rather be safe and take the loss. Thanks for your advice.

Can you get Sunshine Advanced Grower's Mix #4? I know GrowGreenMI can ship it anywhere pretty much for $22.50 a bale which expands to 6 cu ft. It's dried and compressed so the chances of bugs surviving that are minimal if even possible.

I certainly wouldn't go with fox farm happy frog from that same place again and risk the same exact problem. Pro Mix is similar to Sunshine that it's compressed, just another option out there. I haven't personally used it, but I've seen plenty of great results with it. You'll need to water those types of soil more frequently because they are more porous, but they are both excellent alternative options if you want to greatly reduce your risk of having this happen again.

I like to add some Coast of Maine Stonington Blend to the Sunshine mix, going 65/35% right now. That provides a decent amount of food (Stonington blend is packed with nutrients) and helps with water retention. The Sunshine mix is an excellent medium by itself though, but like I said, it needs to be watered more frequently and doesn't have food in it. It does have silica and mycorrhizae in it which are both very beneficial.

There's always the risk of some contamination with soil especially if it's stored outside like most nurseries/hydro shops. There are ways to limit the bugs, but not something you want to have to deal with.

What strain is it from Cannarado? They're one of the best breeders out there, have been for a long time now. Sundae Driver is a legendary strain imo.

I think I remember seeing your thread about when you opened the soil. 🥴
Nothing good can come from it IMO. Those are all insect eggs and will hatch according to their own proper incubation rate.
I would have thought ants from soil pics but insects are not my specialty. You definitely got something else growing there now.
I would be worried about contaminating your grow space the longer you let the soil grow.
Maybe just me.
