Hi, I'm doing my first grow and have had a lot of problems and concerns (as you can see from previous threads).
I've had to buy more store bought weed to deal with my increased anxiety about my babies. My setup is in the garage with a homemade tent. The garage is super dark during the day (i.e. it's pretty lightproof - the tent is an extra precaution).
The plants are flowering and I had really been enjoying the odor when I went into the garage to smoke. It was quite relaxing. Lately though, no odor. I can't smell them. In flower phase, do they stop smelling after a while? I realize my problem is the opposite of most folks. Most folks write asking for ways to hide the smell. I very much like it!

I'm worried there may be something wrong with my plants. They recently had aphids. This was diagnosed by you guys! I've treated at least twice with soapy water. I believe you'll see some dead aphids in the pictures. To be sure they are all dead, I'm going to buy some ladybugs today or tomorrow. I'm wondering if that affected the odor, or there is something else wrong, or it's normal for the odor to go away.
Generally, how are the buds looking. Can you tell how much longer they have to grow?
Thanks!

Looks like you have aphids, and it looks like your plants are maybe starting to reveg?
I wondered about the reveg too. I have them on 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Can I shorten that to 10 hours on? Or what generally causes reveg? I've been pretty diligent about keeping the light out. Like I said, garage is very dark in the middle of the day even without the tent. If I'm being 100% honest, I do go out there to smoke, but I'm outside the tent with just the flashlight from my phone on.
I'm hoping the aphids you are seeing are dead bug parts. I used a spray bottle with dish soap and water. Sprayed a few times. I'll go ahead and get some ladybugs as a precaution but haven't been too impressed with them (for my general garden) in the past. They seem to come from the shop half dead.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Are these autos?
If i ever got bugs in flower id trash the grow, clean, and restart. That looks like quite the infestation of aphids, id be scared to smoke that.

No, they are photoperiods. I can't trash them! This is my first grow and it means a lot to me. I'll take my chance smoking bug parts :)
I will get some sort of rag and wipe them off though. And of course, get the ladybugs.

Might consider doing a bud wash then... If you dont know how or what it is, heres a link. Thread 'BUD WASHING SOLUTIONS: GLARING PROBLEM WITH LEMON JUICE AND BAKING SODA SOLUTION' https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/b...-lemon-juice-and-baking-soda-solution.142278/

Everything Good has said.......

But also, keeping that 12 dark cycle 100% dark, uninterrupted, no light pollution, is important. I would make some adjustments to make sure your 12 dark is always dark. It doesn't have to be pitch black.......we do have full moons outside (although I suppose some varieties that have been grown for many generations in complete dark for the 12 may be more sensitive to light pollution), but it's a good idea to seal things up better, make sure no light leaks in during the dark 12.

Thanks @Goodshit97 and @Harpua88 . I guess if they are revegging, that would explain why the beautiful smell went away?
Re: light... I'll se what I can do. They have total darkness from noon to midnight and light from midnight to noon (we have time-of-use electricity pricing so this is the cheap time to do it). The only thing I can think is that my wife might go into the garage and throw all the lights on without thinking. I'll have to set up some cameras to catch her in the act. Like I said, all was going well with beautiful odors. Can aphids or other pests stress plant and cause a revegging?
I already started reading up on the washing bud. In the thread you referenced, there certainly were a lot of different opinions! Hard to know what to do. Just hydrogen peroxide? Throw in lemon juice?

One thing to note about the moon is that it’s reflected light and doesn’t have the energy for photosynthesis, so you can’t compare that to a light leak. A candle at 1 foot distance will disrupt your plants more than the brightest full moon.

If the plant intelligence thriving.....for whatever reason, it's not going to express so much, its energy is going towards survival.

Also, there are stages where smells seem to retreat a bit. Even after harvesting, during curing, as chemistry changes.

Fix the fundamental issues and everything else will fall into place. The good thing about a bug infestation is that it lets you hitvthe reset button, really clean everything out, disinfect, pause, disinfect again......then change the things that went wrong. Quite often bugs happen because we bring them in.

Sure, I'm just using it as an example that you don't have to go insane going for pitch black dark. Whatever a bright full moon gives, it doesn't disturb the plants. A flashlight......that can...

I disagree with the pitch dark thing. A candle provides more light and energy than the moon. Artificial light produces more light and energy than a candle. An inside grow shouldn’t have any light during the dark hours.

That curtain arrangement in the first pic is your light barrier? I think that's the reason you're in a weird reveg state. You're going to need something light proof.

Yeah that thin ass sheet or whatever it is isn't keeping daylight out at noon. I'd say reveg and that's why the smell has gone. If those were my plants, I would not be salvaging them, that's way too many aphids plus soap. I bud wash with 3 buckets, peroxide water and 2 clean rinse buckets. Good luck, and try to get a darker space next time.

get over it and throw it all away..
you need to get a proper set up and some guidance from the growers here..
I mean you know I'm all about the MacGyver way... but it has to work lol. Those plants aren't worth the power it's going to take to get to a smokable product, and I doubt tge aphids are all dead with that many there. Sorry OP, that's the harsh truth.
