How long does it generally take to learn how to grow bomb weed?

I had a conversation with my sister tonight, and she said her friend has been growing for two years and still can't grow primo weed.

Is this guy just a shitty grower? Or does it take three or more years before you perfect the craft of growing something better than store bought crap?

She's a true blue believer in that store bought garbage, but then again, she has low standards and also works in that industry.

Some folk have green thumbs, some folk like my sister looks at any plant and it does, but still if your new to growing I would suggest northern lights bc it lets most rookie mistakes slide to a point.

Oops my bad it took me 1 year to teach a friend in Scotland to grow autoflowers over phone, bc he could not wrap his mind at how little nutes they need and did good in veg but would fry in flower.

Starting with quality genetics can add a few years to experience. Genetics is half the game but the other half takes some learning unless you prefer to dish out dough. Anyone can grow with $$$ though.

I would say two years of growing would be plenty provided they were into learning and growing.

I have found that if you can keep a plant with decent genetics alive to maturity, not with half the stigmas white and an amber trich on a leaf, but to maturity, the quality of the product will be high. The yield may not be high, but the key for potency, IMO, is growing it to maturity.

Facts are there's levels to this it depends on what she thinks is shitty but I know for me it was about 4years if I am honest. But I am still learning every grow.
I personally think my first 2 or three grows were from bag seed. Back in the early 2000's it was hard to get genetics that were good.
I have a sister-in-law that thought he boyfriend grows good outdoor. Until my wife had enough of her mouth and dropped off a couple of jars well looks like I am lending a hand this spring

I have always had good luck with most plants (except rosemary for some weird reason).

Pot has such specific and timing dependent needs that it took a couple times through the process to improve my grow.
I was successful on my first grow, but it gets better with each additional grow I complete.

I think luck as well as research plays a big part. But also personal character.

Luck as in getting enough things right that a good product is the end result. Quality and quantity we then try to improve upon.

Character in that the person has to make the effort and do enough ground work that luck and observation carries them through to at least a reasonable harvest.

How long that takes depends on a lot of variables including who’s doing the growing.

I believe most homegrown weed growers should be able to take a run from seed to harvest on their own by the 3rd or 4th grow so in calendar time around 2 years.

That's not to say that a grower can be a natural and knock out fire from day one but most take around that long to be able to understand all the facets that go into growing and how to resolve issues that may crop up.

I think it's similar to any other skill/niche in life. Some people have natural inclinations to excel at certain things, and no matter how hard you try you will fail miserably at others.

Such is life.

I was able to grow tomatoes n shit before I started cannabis. I had like 30+ house plants as well. I really dive into things head first but I had very smokable stuff in under 8 months. I researched every day, checked on them daily if not more.

It ain’t rocket science.

My first successful crop of Acapulco Gold is excellent for smoking and vaping, and it's so much better than what we've been buying from the dispensaries. When I began, I didn't think there would be a substantial difference, but there sure is.

There's so much more involved than putting seeds in dirt. I am currently growing my third and fourth crops and agree with what others have said. It can take several years. Learning is only part of the process and I'm sure I'll learn new things every time I grow another crop. One of my early lessons was discovering what type of growing was best for my lifestyle. Another big part is getting the right equipment. There can be a lot more involved than just a tent and a light.

Funny you should say that! I teach cultivation classes and in the past four years only one person did not or just cannot get it.. now get this… he is a retired rocket scientist!!!

A botanist friend of mine did academic research in that area. He found that what you wrote can be true. Plants can "pick up on vibes," at least according to the results of his studies.

I believe I read years ago that not only music but pets, people, and talking to plants all had noticeable reactions.

Not to long ago I read about trees communicating to each other through roots. Some fungus as well.

At least now we’re listening and learning more.

I firmly believe cooking & growing are very similar. There is definitely room for science and precision, accurate measurements etc (especially with baking) but there's also a "feel" or an intrinsic part of it that is based on things that cannot be measured or calculated.
