no such thing as too much light...so long as u can keep temps in check
What up Malachi, so you you actually have already pulled 2 bo's in a 2.5x4.5 ft space under 2 430s??? If so thats a very nice yield my dude!
My journal should be up and runnin somtime this week, Im in a similar set up. Im runnin SOG as well with 2 400s in a 2x4 space in ebb & flow w/ the connoisseur line. This is my first time usin a space this small, you think a lb is reasonalbe or you think Im shootin too high? Im def shootin for at least .5 gpw and an elbow would put me right there, and if your pullin 2 out of a 2.5x4.5 that def ups my confidence level a lil bit!
Chief, you are running Chocolope right? How does she yield for you? I was going to run a 45 plant SOG in that tight little space I have, but I am taking her down to 32. That way its a little more uniform, 16 under each light. I am also vegging for an extra week this time to see if that helps. My clones rooted about 3 days ago and I placed them in some promix under T-5's. I will leave them there until the 20th and then transplant them into the SOG.
many of the most experienced farmers on the board recommend between 50 and 100 watts per sq. ft.
actually, the lumens per square foot (which you used) is a better unit of measurement to use because it refers to the amount of light and not the amount of energy used. (different lamps [and especially different wattages] produce different amounts of light per watt).
but anyway . . . 50w/sq. ft. with 1,000w HPS (140,000 lumens) works out to just under 9,000 l/sq. ft. . . . so you're right at the low end of the commonly recommended level.

Wouldn't you have to measure the cubic feet? Why doesn't height matter?
Lumens are rated at 1ft above plant canopy
