What do you mean by bulbs that fell short? I assume you have a way of testing them?

Have you thought of building a true dome of lights that literally surrounds the plants........maybe the top 3 feet......a dome that can be dropped down on top of them, and of course can be raised as they grow. Light from every direction.

I see you've thought about it.......how could you not? It would look like Close Encounters of the Third Kind.... ;)

How long would it take you/how much effort? Let's say it was 5ft x 8ft and hung down 3ft all around.....
"Bulbs that fall short", I built a stand with a single bulb holder, place a light meter about 12" below, check the reading from every bulb if the bulb has lost more that 8% vs new bulb, I would keep it as a veg light, some lost 15%(bin them ones), guess hot veg room, on 24/7, some on for 12-18 months.

Yes I have though about a full dome 3ft high being dropped over a single plant(on a lazy Susan), yes it would work but the problem is space, A 3ft round dome would only give me a grow area of 18" or less(horizontal) and you would need 7ft ceilings to take advantage of the design, you would need a large fan top center.

Guess you could go 4ft wide, growing A plant more that 2.5ft wide, 4ft high(above the pot) even canopy(16 tops) would take a lot of time and effort, it's not worth thinking about, you would need the right plant(phoneotype) and a veg time of 3 months, lots of topping and lst.

just a quick question, can you hang a quantum boards vertical, so you can turn them on week 3-7 in flower as a side light, dimmed down to 60%
For the energy and price of the cheap 2ft x 2ft panels, it could give your plant a real boost, would need to move the driver and screw the panel to the wall, 2-3" space for airflow( between wall and panel).
Just not sure how easy this would be.

The plants have been potted up for over a week now and I turned them over to flower on Saturday and they have settle in.
There growing faster than I expected, tallest ones 18", its not going to be easy to adjust the height of the light but there still 24"(center) between the bulb and the tallest plant, may need to pull the shoots down in late flower, really I need to keep the height of the plant 3ft or less (not including the pot)

Your lights look further than mine I wonder if mine are too close also I’m vegging still I did find that I had 2 of the bigger style bulb leds and got rid of the uvb or whatever that crap was. So maybe with the three leds I have it’s to much or to close

do you not need the correct light spectrum for grow lights?
i have no clue, just asking.

That is a good question and the answer is no, you don't need the right light spectrum.
have you seen the light spectrum from the old magnetic HPS, you could still pull a crop from them, same with MH and the red blue leds, same again, light spectrum not great but you can grow bud, there very few bulbs you can buy that will not grow bud as long as you have enough(over 500 umol/s)

A friend loves the results from my grow lights and ask me him one for a 80cm x 80cm flower room
but would like to include a veg light(turn off/on 5 of the bulbs )
so I have the blueprint and I will build the led tomorrow, cost less about £90 including the fan, total watts about 260w

Spent about 2 hours building the light, just need to test, the connector their to connect the fan and the fan hole needs to be drilled out.
lights has a plug for the veg and a plug for the rest of the lights.(white cables)

Very happy with the results, I have used the old bulbs that I have not go around to throwing away(basic test).
With new bulbs and reflective walls I guess it would increase the light output by 10-15%

The flower room with the old bulbs( 6-8 ) crops, need to swap them out but there still doing ok, yesterday I took the plants out of the veg room and it filled about 1m x 50cm of one end of the flower room, I will remove the old plants in flower next Friday, and space the new plants out they should more than double in size.
