All around the world. Thats capitalism for you. Im from Spain and even though we have free healthcare and education (until college, then you have to pay but not as much as in other countries) we have a lot of poberty and had at least 3 economical crisis since Ive been alive. Thats how capitalism works, every few years the economy crashes, prices go up, wages stay the same or go lower and we need to rescue big companies to not go bankrupt to keep the world going as usual. Did you know that in the great depression the solution to create more jobs was to introduce the short lifespan for electronics, cars, etc...? For example the big one was bulb companies coming together to put a max lifespan on bulbs, there's a 100 year old bulb in a fire station that still works because it was created before that happened. If nothing breaks there's no jobs so we have to keep consuming and throwing away in the enviroment to keep capitalism going too. Still, little by little we make things better, there's still plenty of work to do and plenty of sociopaths with money but by reading a history book you can tell we are moving forward. Its not always forward though, sometimes is 3 steps forward and 2 backwards. If social evolution was in a graph it would look like this, with a tendency to improve with with bumps along the way:
