Hey all! Don't have any growing experience (yet), but excited to learn and get to know the world of cannabis cultivation.

Good afternoon all! I currently live in a state that regs should be coming out soon for home cultivation (hopefully by May next year), and am looking forward to my first legal cannabis grow! Don't have much besides a 2x4x6 tent, a 32w light (definitely know I've got to upgrade), some seeds, and some different sized pots. Tight budget, but I plan to give it my best shot. I plan to start with one plant and see how it goes for an indoor grow (outdoor grow won't work for my living situation). I've done some watching on YouTube and have a basic understanding, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself! Look forward to learning from y'all!

it's not difficult to grow you will see it for yourself, 32 watts per foot of space, the light you have to upgrade, a carbon filter to keep out the smell, you'll do fine, I grew my 1st in a 4 x4 x8 tent with photos, bred them as well, pretty soon you'll have plenty of ganja, I harvest around a QP off of the 4 & those are autos, photos I've grown lasted me all summer and into fall

Beautiful plants! Would be very happy with a QP personally, I'm still a pretty new cannabis user so my tolerance is basically nothing lol.

I've seen lots of people on the forums talking about 600W and above, I'm assuming that's for multiple plants?

A lot of good weed can be grown in a 2x4 tent. I have a ViparSpectra XS2000 in mine, but I think I would rather have two smaller lights for better dispersion. For LED lights, 30 watts per square foot of floor space is a good rule of thumb. I've never used that much, though. I also have a 2x2 tent that's great for growing a single plant.

I think one of the first things to consider is what type of growing you prefer. I like how forgiving organic soil is, but there certainly are other good options. It took me a few grows to settle on one method that works for me.

you want a lamp that fit your tent size more than a lamp that be enough for 1 plant, you can grow a plant under lower wattage but the yield will be smaller as well, for example with 100w eventually you can grow 4 plants or 1 plant in a 2x2 space

Oh, I haven't thought about it that way before, so if I have a 2x4x6 tent that I plan to lay on it's side (planning on using a small upstairs closet in my A-frame with a crazy sloped roof), I'd need at least 150W or so since there would be a 6' long tent that's 4' high and comes 2' off the wall?

Autoflower is more demanding for light cause u dont change it from 20/4 or 18/6. Photoperiod need 12/12 during flower, while auto doesnt. U ll still need to manage strenght of light, so dimming is necessary and obviously u not be able to have big height of plants in 6ft tent. Plus u need to consider filter and inline fan too unless u want it have outside of tent.

I d go for at least 300w minimum for small grow and pic based on coverage (2x4 right?) These has the new samsung diodes.
Maybe 2 or 3 of these with driver and dimmer

A couple of beginner decisions would be - - At this early stage if you are using a closet do you need a tent? Just exactly how much height do you think you could squeeze out? Your bucket, planter, pot etc is going to be so many inches tall and you are going to want some clearance both above and below your light so it can breath, - Above so as to not over heat it or cause a fire, and you are going to need anywhere from 6 to 8 inches probably much more clearance below so that you do not get light burn on your tops of your plants. Add in some circulation. You need a timer with a built in battery back up for photo periods. Spend the extra for that when you get to the photos. If all else fails at the very very least get yourself a loupe. Start with a Feminized Auto for now if you want.

I wouldnt bother much, If theres no way to get bigger tent in height than 8ft, u can dimm the light if plant is too close but use a fan to help circulate hot air above canopy.

Also, as a beginner, I wouldn't worry too much about fancier lighting just yet. Know that if the grow bug bites you and you get hooked on this hobby, your light will be most likely your first upgrade. Absorb everything you can. On that sleep less night you get every now and then, come here and read everything, as much as possible. Do not expect to hit a grand slam the first run of growing. Don't beat your self up either. Be patient and gracious and pay attention when you lose and when you finally hit that proverbial home run with a grow, be humble. TELL NO ONE - - -- EVER... Ever.

I don't need a tent I guess as far as the space thing goes, since it is in a closet, but I'd like to keep the smell down as much as possible as I'm not sure if the neighbors are alright with a possible smell seeping into their place, so the thought was to have it in a tent with an exhaust/filter to be able to contain it a little more.

I planned to do HST to spread it out as much as possible, to keep the height down as low as I can on the plant, in order to fit in the (what will end up being) 4' of vertical height I've got.

Heard adding in some circulation for sure, I've got a small 12" tower van that circulates that I plan to use, as well as I planned to buy two small fans for intake/outtake down some ducting into a Bionaire J-type air purifier filter I've got lying around (again, budget is VERY small lol).

I definitely will purchase a timer, my work schedule won't allow me to be able to maintain the light cycle properly.

Heard all! Thank you, and I will never tell anyone, period. Wife knows the rule as well. I am anticipating the bug to bite for sure, I am a pretty passionate cannabis advocate even though I haven't been using for long, I've seen the benefits it has, and would be extremely content to grow my own medicine.
