Question about dehumidifiers. I tested mine out by running it all night. The humidity in the room started out at 50% and is still 50%. Is this normal? There's about an inch of water in the tank. I'd like to be able to get closer to 40% for late flower but don't think this one can do it.

Sounds like the room isn't sealed enough or the dehumidifier just isn't big enough...

Maybe plastic on the windows would help. It's rated at 800 square feet which is bigger than the room. Not that their ratings mean much

Yeah if I'm growing in a room not specifically designed for growing, I generally like to line the rooms with panda plastic and make sure to seal every seam with duct tape. I'm also a big fan of those zipper entryway things. You simply stick it where you want your door/entryway, open the zipper, cut it open with a utility knife and you have a zipper sealed entryway.

I was looking into something like plastic drop cloths for painting. Haven't heard of panda plastic.

The room has a window AC unit in the summer so wouldn't have much option to seal it then.

It's basically black on one side and white on the other, thus the "panda' name.

Comes in many different thicknesses and sizes. Can be found at just about every garden center, too. Prices vary.

I'd recommend getting some that's at least 3mil thick, 5 or 6mil + for more permanent applications.

As for the window AC, install the panda plastic with the AC in the window (even just temporarily) just cut a hole in the panda plastic around the window AC, take the AC out and then take another piece of panda plastic and seal off the hole until you're ready for the AC again in the Spring.

BTW it's super easy to install panda plastic with just a staplegun and duct tape. Use duct tape to seal off every seam, and put duct tape over every staple site, as well, to seal the room as best as you can.

Cool, I just ordered some. The previous owners put in cheap windows before selling the house so they're not real insulated to begin with. A 10x10 would cover both of them perfectly.

That’s probably the issue too small of a dehu, I’m in a 300 Sq ft room, I’m running one of these, they are unavailable now but I paid $269 for it about a year and a half ago, an hour and I can drop RH from 80 to 35 but it can defenitly add to heat in the room

Yep, that’s a nice little unit though.
Mines over kill for my flower room, but that means it runs less, and pulls more.

I'll try the plastic first. If that doesn't work I'll look into a bigger dehumidifier. Don't really have to worry about it for a couple months but insulating will help to keep the room warmer during veg.

Yep it’s great in the winter when you’re looking for heat while running LED’s but horrible in the summer when you’re battling heat AND humidity it’s a pain in the ass that’s where the overkill works awesome it’ll run 3-4 minutes to drop me from 55% back down to 45% so it helps limit the heat input to the room

But when it’s super humid and it’s running constantly it can raise the room temp 5-6f
