I've got 2 plants to take cuttings from. 1 has many branches and I figure the lower ones would be the ones to cut.

I would take my drill and shoot a hole through that tiny spot before all the shoots branch off, right above the medium. 1/8 bit. Then another hole right in the next available spot.
