I usually top dress with a mixture of earthworm castings and dry amendments. Often notice an uptick in fungus gnats, and haven’t chanced with this past grow, instead I just scratched in the dry amendments into the soil and covered back up with the mulch I use. Now I’m almost convinced that they’re in the earthworm castings. Anyone else notice this? I’ve used three different brands over the years most recently coast of Maine which has compost in it, Wiggle worm, and stuff from Lowe’s or Home Depot. The box store stuff has a high percent of compost too, and I can’t remember if the wiggle worm did or not.
I’ve also had them pop up when using blood/bone meals as well…..

BuildAFlower compost from Build A Soil comes with beneficial insects that prey on fungus gnats. Not sure if that's on purpose or if I just got lucky, but they were there. The compost is some good shit too.

I didn’t have a problem until I introduced the wiggle worm castings. That’s good insight.

It almost makes sense that you would have fungus gnats as a result of using earthworm castings, the process involves compost that worms eat and pass. There’s all kinds of biological stuff going on, probably impossible to not have some bugs sneaking through.

Northern lights 5 update set em up differently tallest to short. I watered them today. Next up I would include with this post but the site is tripping. The right rear is the one that has problems.
