Is it bad to test a nug out before harvest?

-When doin some defoliation and scrogging.

ended wanting cutting off a few pre mature buds. Dried em cured em for a few weeks n they smoked hella good minus the flavour.

today i felt like what’s a few more as in cutting down some lower buds that don’t reach well n trying them out. Should I go ahead n dry & cure em for a few weeks before I harvest.

not that I’m that impatient Im also wondering if it matters that much because if not, why not.
it’ll only save the plant energy right?

Ps. any Tips for drying and mostly curing?

Some notes:

— You have some great flowers, don’t smoke them yet! They’re still quite a bit away from being ripe. You want a minimum of 50% of those hairs to be orange

— Your goal is to push the plants as far as it can go and harvest it right before it starts to degrade. You’ll know because the majority of the fan leaves will die and fall off, and the flowers will be glorious looking. You have great looking flower that’s still going to be fattening up a lot.

— It does sorta stress the plant out to be cutting flower off, especially if it isn’t matured. I’d say wait until that plant is completely finished before doing any cutting. Think of the plant as one living entity as opposed to a bunch of individual buds. Some parts will mature before others, and they’ll be fine, they won’t die, and let the other less mature buds finish up, and then chop the plant.

Any tips for a good terpy cure?

Keep it at 60 degrees and 60% rh for two weeks minimum. Don’t rush it. Hang the entire plant as one piece.

I agree. I hang my whole plant(s). This winter was pretty dry, humidity was around 40% so my drying time was a little shorter. I hung my whole plant for about 7 days, did a try trim, and put them in jars with Boveda 62% humidity packs. I’d also open the jars a few times a week just to get them some fresh air. Everyone is working with different constraints so there’s some variation—60% humidity 60 degrees is the ideal, but if you can’t hit that, adjust as needed. I love the Boveda humidity packs because they offer a lot of cushioning if flower gets over or under dried. I worry about my curing less with them because I know they’re always sitting tight in my jars at 62%.
