I should of clarified lol I’m only chopping my top colas letting my bottoms ripen,,, they are about 10% Amber on the actual bud site and I look to chop around 15-20% Amber. So here in prolly 3/4 days I’ll chop her. Thank you growmies for the compliments!!’

I am suggesting you make a new post before you chop anything . Put a pic of the very tops . Like you said your only cutting the tops first .
What i am seeing all the white hairs there are at least another 2 weeks before chop . Do not chop early it makes a critical difference in smoke quality.

Pistils are not always a clear indication of bud ripeness. Once trichomes turn Amber they degrade from thc to cbd. You know your shit so I’m sure I don’t have to explain. But I’m going to go based off what I’m seeing through my microscope. I do appreciate the input tho growmie. We all have our own ways

THC does not degrade to CBD. THC degrades to CBN, another cannabinoid. Amber trichomes sort of signal the accumulation of CBN.

Your packed with know how always good but this time your like a patient on web md you diag yourself with the worst possible illness when you only have the clap from the hooker last night JOKE. . However . Never scope them before the hairs change colors . This will trick you .
Ok i have a quick story . about 100 plants . A employee sends pics of them scoped out . I give the approval to harvest them all.
Days later i get to the shop . I inspect the flower before we process . Well it was not ready ! The plant was 3 or more weeks before they were done !!! New rule send the entire pic of the plant and then scope it .
Point is wait to all the white hairs change colors before you pick up that scope .
Those plants may have a lot of milky but its not done bulking in size yield . Its not ready.
I would suggest to you see at least 10 % amber along with milky before harvesting .

You can start scoping when you get at least 60 or so white hairs to change colors .

We consider the whole plant: pistils, trichomes, leaves, aroma, etc. We've stopped looking at the calendar. For us, in our little growing operation, much of growing seems to have become a matter of intuition based on experience.

Several times, we thought about doing a gradual harvest, but have not done it. It might work well if there are stems closer to the light than the rest of the plant's crown. It's basically a type of pruning. Each time, we chose instead to wait till the lower colas were ready, thus allowing the upper colas to be very ripe.

The decision, I believe, depends on how the buds will be used. We mostly blend and grind, and then vape or make tinctures. After trying tinctures for the first time, my wife quickly commandeered the tincture making from me and has become quite good at blending different strains.

This is definitely an experiment for me as well so I’m not sure how well it’s going to turn out but I’m okay with bad or good results yknow. I just want to learn and see what happens so I can apply it to future grows. I too just tend to go with my gut feeling, it seems to work out better than when I try too hard if that makes sense. Occam’s razor lol. The results will definitely get posted tho

Thank you for the article brotha and you are correct on the cbn I was at work so also if I came off as an ass my bad. I’ll shoot some more pics onto her later today showing more of the hairs under a clear light. They are 98% orange and my trichomes are at about 10% Amber. I’m still gonna let them cook for a few days and I think at the rate they are ripening, they’ll be good to chop. At least my top colas anyway. We’re gonna run the bottoms a little longer and see how that works out lol

Added info to what your saying . For some reason i will say in some gardens .
Hps grows the bottom of the plants were usually never as far done as the tops . So lot of growers would harvest just the tops wait another 10 days or so for the bottom .
These new QB boards . The bottoms get done faster then the tops . Complete different . I think its from to much light being pushed into the bud and it forces it it fox tail if you will . IDK

Thank you for the knowledge I missed one of your other posts up there where you were saying to run the plant till all pistols have turned orange. I’ve never done that. Maybe I let my truffle run it out like that and do my last plant how I was saying with the top first then bottom. I’m using a king grow led 1000w light. I mean for the money I paid I can’t complain about the results it does a solid job. However time and time again my lower bud sites are always super small even with heavy defoliation. Like it doesn’t reach far enough

Yeah these led do not get that deep . Lack of side lighting from them .
My advice is veg it 1 foot tall and flip to 12/12 , You can pull 6 to 8 ounces off that small plant .
Some people swear veg bigger . They get pop corn buds . Other growers trim all the bottom branches off .Why grow it that big when you can save time and flip . Same yield . Only the main tops get the big yield we all know . You next grow try a single plant for yourself . You should veg it 12 inches stall fim it the same day of 12/12

So I did get a little side tracked and forgot to update sooner but I am back with an update. First and foremost I wanna say to the ones who told me to run it longer, you were absolutely right. But we live and learn
First 3 pics are showing some of the buds I harvested. 4-9 were the lower buds after I harvest the top buds. Those pics were Feb 18th. The 10-12 pics are the most current pics those are from the 29th of Feb. yesterday the light got turned off and tomorrow after their 2 days of darkness I’m going to harvest. I’ve never tried the 2 days of dark so I’m curious to see the results on that. So the lower buds ran an additional 16 days before chopping. That will be day 82 of flower. The sample I took off the top colas got me absolutely fried so I’m excited to sample these lowers.

My next grow is going to be in my new 4x4 and I’m probably gonna run 10 plants I think. 2 gallon pots. One of them I’ll let grow all natural and time to flip it like you say. It’s under a spider farmer sf4000 so I’m hoping to see an increase in bud size and yield
