She was putting in work. But damage to the bottom end and some on the top end of the motor will keep broke ass fools like me from the winners circle. A lot of the time, I will limp it on 7 cylinders if the end is with in 1 round. But two jacked cylinders running on 6 total?
Yeah, best to pack it in, and keep a serious catastrophe at bay. Granted I was able to fix the rod, but I fear the damage had already been done. The spun bearing is most likely what caused a break on the rocker. There is only so much these old motors can withstand, sometimes all it takes to break things is a bit of tire shake, or my dumb ass not setting the front end down smooth at launch. So many varieties of “fuck you man” this car shows me.

Peep the date, this was from my last big win when my uncle used to still roll with me. It’s almost 20 years ago. 35 grand went a lot farther back then. Now I’ve won some shootouts and a few bracket races since then, but the majority of wins I get nowadays is me finding egocentric youngbucks in grudge callouts on test and tune weekends. I do well in that department. But sanctioned races nowadays cost a lot to enter. And man these folks with all the fuel injection kits that they can tune by hooking up a laptop? It is tough to run them. Granted they are all pussies,
But I fear I will be making the jump to a twin turbo ls with Holley fuel injection over the carb and conventional Pontiac blocks. For the large field races and as hot as the track gets, I need a bit more versatility in my tuning game. I hate it, but it’s looking like I may have to go that route,

Yeah that’s definitely a whole different ball game at that point. I can barely operate a laptop by itself, if you hooked it up to the ecm I’d be so afraid of messing it up. I bought some wireless trail cameras this past hunting season and I needed to download load firmware and blahh blahh blah. I was so afraid of messing up the girlfriend’s work computer that I just gave up. You wanna see a monkey get angry and start throwing shit, put a computer in my hands.

Oh and on top of that I had to change a connecting rod solo too, I knew it’s time was near, I had 49 runs on the current set, so I will be taking the other 7 from That set out, and most likely going to have the crankshaft machined. Where there is one, there is usually 2. Spun the FUCK out of the bearing and destroyed the journal. Looks like a pack of badgers went looney on it. Into the spent pile they go……at least they got me through the round. It’s amazing she held up through this. Will be turned into art once I fire up the welder. Car parts make cool wall hangers. I have spent rods, and pistons all over the house……lesson? It was a multi day contest with a rain day that pushed things longer.
Them awd cars a damned menace. In a good way.
Serious bummer when the tuner is tweaking the innards like that. It’s been a loooong time since I bent a rod. That’s some damned heat building up in that block when that happens. Or the harmonic balance is off but then you would see other damage in the components leading up to the rod…Sounds like a cooling system upgrade wouldn’t hurt…..I run seperate coolers on the Pontiac, one for the motor and one for the trans…..a split load on the high end performance end of things is no bueno, as I am positive your friend already knew or knows.
