Was gonna question that aswell :Dso if you buy those things they only work as long as there servers are up ? why does it need to be connected to them ?
well he could be talking about an app , i used to have a dji phantom 4 drone and dji can control those things from chinaWas gonna question that aswell :D
Sometimes those things are transmitted to their Servers first and then rerouted to your Account, enabling you to Controll them on vacation etc. but if theres no way grab those data directly from your Wifi aswell as preventing that from happen, that seems like a hughe flaw as we can see in this case.
Best of luck getting that Controller back running, though if thats truly an issue with AC i would surely write some complains... No need there to have to rely on their Server, always a red flag in my eyes.
yeah companies are having way to much access to your purchased Goods, dont wanna start a whole new Fire but just think about apple admitting to slowing down devices for Prodcuts with "old" Batteries. Dont even have to be some foreign company completly controlling the device.well he could be talking about an app , i used to have a dji phantom 4 drone and dji can control those things from china
No. The controllers continue to work. We had a bad internet failure here and the controllers continued to function. I don't remember whether the phone app worked or not, though. Mine control the lights, and they came on and turned off on schedule.so if you buy those things they only work as long as there servers are up ?
It's just the phone app AFAIK, and the phone app can still connect to the controllers using Bluetooth.why does it need to be connected to them ?
Many apps do "phone home" though. It's okay with me when they're doing updates. I don't like it when they don't need to do it. They can't always stay within the local network, however. They sometimes need a server to manage the connections. For example, if the phone is connected to the cellular network and the device is connected in a network behind a router and firewall. In that case, a server is needed outside the local network to route the connections.Back to topic, im assuming hes using an App on phone from the looks of it but once both are connected within the same Wifi network no need to have a middleman to send data back and forth just have it directly accessible as you would on other Wifi devices that dont rely on you setting up an Account.

Sry never heard of the Term phone home. But yea i agree bothers me aswell if they require it although its not needed specially if its needed all the time while running to get access to its data/settings. Fine with me if they do their internet upgrade thing or some other Stuff for connections as long as you dont have to create some account and conset to some sketchy Terms of Service. Many apps do "phone home" though.
