Man, this is a fast moving thread lol.
im gonna leave this here.
For me the drying thing hasnt been a one size fits all. I have genetics that i trim fresh because they are a PITA to trim dry, and even with fan leaves removed just takes too long. Those plants have also responded fairly well to drying in warmer temps with lower humidity, but then ive had to deal with the ass pains of trimming those plants dry. And went back to fresh trimming.
I've had sativa's where any extended visits while drying close to 80 have significantly messed up the terp profile.
Now a days though, i just make decisions based on bud/leaf ratios, and how much of a pain the plant is to trim wet/dry and create an environment based on those observations that should allow me a 9-14 day dry time. Depending on local weather conditions sometimes i haven't even bothered with a humidifier. And i don't grow commercially or for profit/selling anymore either, so im way less scrupulous when it comes to drying and trimming methods. My bubba x gelato, fresh trimmed, at 70/55% still takes like 10 days to dry. If you you didn't trim first and hang in at LEAST conditions like that, it takes like 20 days to dry. I have some sativas that would be damn near flavorless if i did something like that to them.
All that being said, only a couple times in about 20 years of growing have i inadvertently dried my stuff too fast and messed up the terp content, and it was pretty early on, and i learned from that first hand. Only once have i had any mold on drying product, and it was also flood raining every day almost during that period and i had multiple dehumidiers running and a flooding basement. I Lost less then an ounce though.
In recent growing times, even in a DWC tent, i haven't even bothered keeping track of humidity's and temperatures, growing or drying. I had got so used to my strains, and my growing environment i was accurate enough just judging my own perceptions/sensations.
Although now, im about 5 or 6 years out of practice, in a new place, on new land, in a new region. It'll prob be a couple years here til im able to wing it effectively.
Weather and individual plant traits completely controle how i handle processing the buds though. And i have several different wys to go about it really. In a commercial environment it's different, figuring out a good enough method that can one size fits all your plants is hugely beneficial to your bottom line, the easiest thing to control and tune per plant is just how long it will stay in the environment, and shortening the processing times also greatly impacts your bottom line to the good.
