So as this little project begins, more of an evolving journal of a mother plant. The first plant will be a test to learn the fastest technique to grafting. I call it project Hydra after the mythica Greek beast the Hydra, a beast with many heads, this mother plant, or the eventual final mother plant will house many strains to be selected when needed. This will be the journal of me learning how to graft, and how to do it the most efficient way and eventually to design a final mother plant, of which I’ve never taken care of either. So…. Yeah a fun new project begins
To start we have the cali blues freak, a 3rd generation clone from the mother plant does well with dry amendments and through the runs no issues or diseases and a excellent blueberry cali blues from @Captspaulding
After an up pot then followed by a heavy defoliation (took off about 2/3 of the plant) they were left to sit for the night, next day came back and she was all perked up still so I figured might as well get attempt 1 out of the way, I took these pics along the way but felt safer redoing it with smaller/ shorter growth tips, everything was sterilized with 70% iso alcohol, cutting was taken and out directly into water while the recipient stalk was worked on, then v it was made to donor scion, I used the split on the stalk side and clone side got the base cut in a “V” approx 3/4” deep then Pushed the “scion” (as it’s called in every article I’ve read, and will be the term I’ll use.) down until it made a firm connection. I used the easy peel first aid tape to wrap the graft point, tightly but not tight enough to squeeze or damage anything, then used some new produce bags (I have a roll) cut down and shortened, then sprayed inside of the bag as well as the scion, covered with the bag, and then tied the bag tightly so no air could get in so no humidity in its “mini dome” will be lost while healing, just around the graft point.
From what I’ve ran and watched the bag should stay on for approx 2 weeks, if she starts trying to grow back up is what I should be watching for.
This is attempt 1 and was done with 2 grafts, one from each, Frostette 1 and Frostette 2 from seed from @Trustfall, a clone will also be taken as I don’t expect my first try to be a success by any means, but through trial and error well figure it out!
Let the fun begin!
Any tips are much appreciated follow along, throw out tips or links to articles, anything related to mother plant care, any knowledge you have in long term mother plant care especially for a beginner, bonzai and grafted cannabis mothers. Hit me up!
