Humidity or not humidity issue?

I start my seedlings with NO tent. Its way too hot in there for them. Leave the tent open, try to keep your cats away while they're small.

As long as it's not too hot I don't worry about vpd during the seedling stage.

According to the chart... I am at 187. Danger Will Robinson! 🙀

I will be placing the humidifier inside the tent as another has done. All my electrical is running through the top hole I have in my tent. I have another 2 on the sides at the top however they are against a wall. Not too easy to get to.

I will have to re-set the text next grow. Tweak the set-up a little. I am glad I asked this question... I am hoping for nice tight buds. Light and fluffy are not my favorite.

I do have to take care of the pin holes. Just 3 little ones. They are near the bottom and I do see light from inside. I am not sure they are big enough to do harm in the meantime. If anything they are like 3 little stars in the night sky. 🤔

Ok... set up the humidifier.... waiting to fill the tent with moisture. I need to learn to set this properly.... figure I can control the humidity with the fan until I figure out the proper setting. I do not have the AC Infinity controller so I have to use the unit to set it up. Reads like stereo instructions LMAO ( you older folk may get that one.... ;) ). I may have to put it outside the tent if I cannot figure out how to shut the display off by 4:30 PM when it's lights out. Ok, by 10:00 ao when I have to leave for work. HAHAHA.

10 min and it seems to be working. temp 78 degrees F and humidity from 51% TO 78% Sensor is on the floor, where do you recommend I place the sensor(s)... I have the one for the fan and the one for the humidifier. The fan sensor is hanging from the top in the front corner and the humidifier is on the floor by the plants.

UG... so much to learn😱

Shit! Now I am in the danger zone for too wet! 78.8 degrees F and 89.5% humidity. This is tricky. 😭🤣🤣🤣

Current readings:
Wind Speed: 1600 RPM
Temp 78.3 Degrees F
Humidity: 76%
Air Volume 76.5 CFM
Wind Pressure 99 PA

No clue to what any of that means... but it looks like VPD is in range. Not if I Can hold these settings 🤔 😲

Definitely get the humidity down, make sure your probe isn't laying up against something or on the floor. It must be suspended or it's going to take the readings of whatever it's touching.
If fans are blowing on the probe, it will affect the readings as well.
It's going to take some adjusting to find the right spot in your tent. I like to setup equipment when I can be home all day so I can closely monitor and adjust if needed.

I recommend controlling the humidifier with the humidity level function, not the vpd function, until you get the hang of dialing in your environment.
VPD wasn't used for years, great tool but can get new growers into big trouble trying to figure it out.

Set the humidifier so it had a max mist level of 4 or 5, don't like it go all the way up to 10.

I have Sun, Mon and Tue off.... I will be making adjustments.

Yes, sensor is on the floor. I will move that now! 👍

Trust me, I know how frustrating it can be sometimes. I can't tell you how many different configurations I've ran until I found the right one. Endless hours looking at the Controller app on my phone and rushing back upstairs to adjust things lol

Yep, very frustrating LOL. I moved both sensors above the plants. About 6 inches or so. Where I cannot read the humidifier, I do have the Mars-Hydro app for the fan and lights. I am monitoring that sensor for the temp and humidity. Adjusting the fan speed to try to keep it stable. Readings are different in the new location so I will be making some fine adjustments before work and hope I can hold it.

If nothing else.... This will give me something to do at work LMAO.

Do you have other thermometers and hygrometers?
I put a few in different places in my tent so I know my temp and humidity in different spots in the tent.

I check mine quite a bit at work lol it's nice being able to monitor and adjust things without being home!

I have the one from the humidifier and one from the fan. Both are above the plants as they are only 7/8 days old. Figure best where they are. I think I can get an app for the humidifier, not sure if I need the control unit from AC Infinity or not.... I have this running solo as I do not have their system.

Right On Mega! many years of growing before many of Us even heard the acronym VPD, Seedlings even young Veggers are less affected by Vapor Pressure / Stomatal Response as they are "not yet exchanging gasses (or transpiring)" like Plants in Late Veg, early Bloom or full Flower, good Vapor Pressures do aid the Plants ability to Transpire (gas exchange), but should only be used as a guideline... Born and Raised in Florida, Living in Minnesota 16 years, I went from High RH indoor Grows in Florida to Very Low RH Indoor Grows in Minnesota, Humidifiers can help in MN, but Ive had grows in the winter months with 10% RH and my Plants do just fine, they will adapt to an Arid Climate as it is built into their DNA. In these low RH conditions, you will keep them watered and Back off on Lighting/Temperatures, also run fans on low. Cannabis knows what to do!

Yes you need the Controller 69 to use the app with the humidifier. If you ever get the Controller 69, make sure to get the Pro WiFi Version, that way you can adjust and monitor away from home. The Bluetooth only version doesn't allow viewing and adjusting outside of Bluetooth range.

You're doing great though!

I'm very impressed, you dove into this with the attitude that you're going to be successful!
You take advice well, consider everyone's opinions, and seem to be pretty open minded!

I see a successful grow/harvest in your future! Just keep doing what you're doing and stick around the forum!

What is vpd?

Also... Start veg? Isn't it started? 1st 4 weeks is the veg stage according to the nutrient grow chart. 5th week is flowering. I can adjust when veg starts?
Don't worry about VPD it will fuck you up as a new grower. Extremely foolish to go down that route IMO. Learn good temp and humidity ranges for each stage and follow that. Don't Over complicate shit or you'll kill your plants ✌️

Easy to take advice, hard to know which advice to take. I hope I am making the right choices. 🤣

From the chart above, Temp and humidity is what I thought VPD was LOL. I am trying to keep in the range for temp and humidity in the tent according to that chart. I am not afraid of difficult things.... if this will be needed down the road, why wait. I expect this first harvest to be under par... hoping for the best through and trying to stay within the advice being given the best I can.

One nice thing... since I added the humidifier my app alerts have stopped. I must be in a good range for their seedling setting.

When do I go veg?

When do I go veg?
Seedling which is until the first 5 finger leaves appear is 60 to 80% , veg is is in the 60s, flower you want to slowly lower humidity over time to as low as you can but never go over 60% in flower. Temp wise 60 to 80 F lower in flower higher in veg. These ate just guidelines and the only definite one is humidity lower in flower, outside of that the plant will grow.
Less is more light wise, watering you can water a lot at once and you are ok, overwatering is watering too often.
Read your leaves for the light, a droop is too much light, flat leaves is perfect, leaves praying or upward at a 45 degree angle near the End of the day and they need more light. Check out my threads, if you like my plants feel free to ask for help. Cannabis is such an amazing plant ✌️

So is that when I transplant into a larger pot? I do not want to go from seed pot to 5 gal bags. I know others have done that, and maybe I do not need a mid pot.... IDK for sure.

That being said... Can you please look here: https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/are-these-too-tall-skinny.160366/?post=3124656#post-3124656

Worried they are too tall. 😲
Your seedlings don't look to tall at all, when you transplant you can bury the stem pretty much up to the cotyledons if needed.

What do you have the dimmer set to on your light and how many inches above the top of your seedlings?
I posted a Pic below of my seedlings going right now in my seedling chamber, they popped out of the soil on 05/24 so they are 8 days old now. Just so you can compare 😊

You can go right to your 5 gallon planters, no need for a mid pot.
I've only ever used a mid pot 1 time, I had a couple seedlings that weren't doing well so in attempt of saving them I transplanted from solo cups into 2 quart pots, the transplant thankfully fixed my issue and later transplanted to final pot.

I use solo cups and transplant once the leaves hang over the edge of the cups and have a few nodes/sets of leaves. I top 1-2 weeks after I transplant.

Here is a pic of a plant the day I transplanted it, just to give you a better idea of the size I transplant at.

Dimmer is at 25% as recommended by the chart. I had the lights way too high. The chart suggested 12 to 24 inches above the plants. I was within that I believe, more toward 24"... just raised the plants and lowered the lights. I am around 11 inches above the leaves. Someone suggested to go to around 3" until the leaves spread out a bit. Not sure I can get them that low as I have a Deep red that I use that is on the edge of the main light. Trying to keep them under both. (or both lights on the plant)

Your seedlings look like mine. Cool... I am on the right path. I put mine in soil on the 24th, the watermelon sprouted on the 26th, the royal purple the next day.

Ok, I think things are good for now. Humidifier, check. Light adjustment, check. Almost time to wake them up. Cannot wait to see if they grew any while I was at work 🤣 🤣

Hi all.... Silly question.

I have plants in early stages. 6 days old to be precise. My tent app is calling for heavy humidity during the "seeding" phase. However the stats on my seeds say these plants like a warm dry climate. So... humidity is running in the mid 40's to the mid 50's. I have been putting a large pan of hot water in the tent to build up humidity. But should I do that if the seeds do not call for a humid environment?

Thanks in advance. 👍
VPD or Vapor Pressure Deficit. It’s essentially a measure of (canopy/leaf) temperature combined with RH levels. There’s a sweet spot for all growth stages and seedlings usually like a higher humidity like clones, minimum of 60% but no more than about 85%.

It’s a general rule to have your humidity 20 points below your temp so if it’s 80F inside the tent aim for 60% RH in veg.

Humidity needs to drop in flower since 60% is the start point for fungus

On the plus side... I have an app on my phone to watch while I'm away....

On the negative... I am checking my phone like a 13 year old girl. 🤣 🤣

temp 75.6
Humidity 84.4

If I raise the RPM of the fan, I suck out humidity as well as heat. Trying to walk that line. 🤞

Thought about a humidifier or maybe using a larger space?
