Funny story, I worked with a guy who had to go to Russia to help monitor their nuclear program. It was winter and the river that runs through Moscow was frozen solid and it was about-20f. He asked his interpreter (probably KGB) where they were going, he said “Siberia” (a city that’s not on the map). He asked how cold it would be, the guy said “-70f, but it’s a dry cold”. When he left Siberia to go back to Moscow they had to heat the differential on the truck with blow torches because the grease was frozen solid and the wheels wouldn’t turn!
Siberia is this place that legends are made of! Like their ice Road truckers! Can never turn their vehicles off!

I spent 15 years in Fort Wayne, Indiana! Before I got Californicated! I know how to ice skate!! I went to my first concert in Fort Wayne! And ran from my first teargas antiwar protest in Fort Wayne! Oh, the memories! L O L

Heating the differentials was just to go about a mile to get to the helicopter to get out of there! He had lots of good stories about helping the soviets "find" all their nuclear material, but unfortunately most of them are still classified!

what was your first concert or few

Chicago transit Authority at the war Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne! That’s always been a pretty impressive band! I think they outlawed concerts for about five years after that one because people were smoking pot! L O L! Probably around 70 or 71! For a clodhopper like me, that was a big deal!

I read a book about some kid who hitchhiked across the Soviet Union starting in Siberia, and heading west! The consensus was he would be killed for sure! But he made it and had some good things to say about some of the people! It’s just a tough life over there with Rampant, alcohol abuse! Especially Siberia way! He had a lot of help from common people over there!

sweet!,.. ah give me more especially anything seen in the 70’s early 80’s?

No, don’t get me started! I don’t hold a candle to an old concert hound like you! I probably didn’t go to any after about 76. The usual fair! Pink Floyd when they did meddle, Black Sabbath, Allman Brothers, yes, Edgar, and Johnny Winter, Emerson Lake, and Palmer, more than I don’t remember! All in the bay area!

Unfortunately, he didn’t get to interact much with the regular people, his “interpreter” , was more like a handler, and pretty much insulated him from the common people.

I don’t doubt that! When you are dealing in that kind of stuff!

That’s a great line-up.

Being a SF bay area kid I saw a lot of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Huey Lewis and the News, and Tower of Power. In the late 70's I saw Emerson, Lake, and Palmer at the Cow Palace, their warm-up band was Journey!! (God I'm old!) Though I was only about 9, my cousin took me to the last Beatles Concert at Candlestick Park in 1966, unfortunately I don't remember much of it, other than it was hard to hear over the screaming fans. As a Bay Area kid, you probably remember some of those "Day on the Green" concerts, I might of been there with you!

I hear you brother! Don’t remember much about a lot of them either! Probably lucky to get home alive! I think I saw ELP at Berkeley community! Kind of weird! Three little dudes on stage in front of a huge wall of speakers that would scramble your brain! Ha ha! Journey actually played at our high school! One of the music teachers or something new them! Montavista! Winterland, Berkeley community, Cow Palace, Oakland Coliseum for the greens! It was a different time back, then! We never worried about getting jumped, going to winter land! Or you could walk up telegraph to the college with all the people on soapboxes speaking their piece! But not spewing, venomous hatred like nowadays! Dashikis, huge fro’s, Flowing Arab garments! What a zoo! And acid being sold on every corner! L O L!

I know we had some black oak albums and it’s possible they might’ve second billed A few of the big boys! But I can’t be sure! Edgar Winter was always a good second bill! Good old, white trash! People are always asking me? Where is your brother? That would always get a huge response and he would come out and play rock ‘n’ roll Hoochie Koo! L O L! And on top of that, Rick Derringer was no slouch! L O L! Love, tobacco Road off of road work!
