Outdoor grow in Southeast Michigan 2024

Sister-in-law turned me onto this, and it works for me. And I'm a skeeter magnet. I clip it to the back of my pants, careful to not cover it with my shirt, and away I go. I do notice the bugs while walking, but as soon as I stop they don't buzz me...

We actually have a themacell lantern for our deck that works amazingly if it’s not windy. Not sure exactly why I haven’t jumped on the portable ones yet 😂😂😂😂😂😂

DAMN those have BLOWN UP !!! Knowing how much time I spent keeping 1 plant under control last year I can’t even imagine taming this alone !!!! Beautiful hedgerows you have and your trim jail sentence is getting longer every day 😂😂😂😂😂can’t wait to see em finish

Killing it! Those things look wonderful! 😍

Now for the bad news....
Septoria has shown up due to all the wet weather some of us are dealing with.
Angel 98 seems to have a weakness for it, and I've got it on the lower leaves of Blood, Milk & Sky, but I've seen spots on at least 3 others. And my zinnias got it up by the house too. Just that time of year. 🙁
After tonight we may have 3 days of dry so I'll be out tomorrow spraying everything AGAIN!

Just asking if you've ever considered doing a heavy lollipop on your plants?

Just hate to read this update. I'm sorry, man. Sucks. What do you use to treat for that?

I thought about it, but with all the disease and insect pressure they already lose lots of leaves before harvest and I'm afraid to take too many.
I've been told the hedgerow of trees next to the garden is probably contributing to the aerial spread of bacterial and viral diseases. Plus the ones the sucking insects all over my plants may carry.

So, I've focused my energies on keeping them as healthy as I can and support beneficial insects and spray bio-fungicides on the plants and soil.

It's frustrating and exhausting sometimes but only for a few months. Then, the long cold season.

I spray bio-fungicides. I know they are supposed to used as preventatives not a cure-all but I'm hoping it helps.

You can find these at Arbico Organics
Howler - Pseudomonas chlororaphis strain AFS009
LALSTOP G46 - Gliocladium catenulatum Strain J1446
Cease - Bacillus subtilis

Until you remove the infected foliage I am afraid spraying wont accomplish much. Taking all the infected stuff out will allow more airflow too which will also help in your fight.
Just got done reading this! It said remove the infected leaves “immediately” and make sure you are washing your hands and tools after that.

That's kinda why i asked about the lollipopping. I used to not do it but the last 7yrs of outdoor i have and i truly believe it helped me alot from getting mold and heavy PM in the fall. You may feel like your hurting them but it's really a benefit to open air between the branches on the main stalks. And open more under the skirts.
