Off topic, but can you see the Park Fire? I had a buddy who owned 40 acres/house on top of the ridge above Rock Creek just outside Cohasset, not sure if the house is still there! Fire started yesterday and was 6500 acres last night, this morning it's 45,000 acres, 3% contained!!! 17 sq. miles burned so far, tons of fuel, buckbrush, manzanita, scrub oak, and laurel trees, access to the fire is very limited for firefighting crews, must be dumping many loads of Borate, the Calfire bomber is housed in Chico., my buddies stepson in a aircraft mechanic there.

I’ll try and get a more unobstructed view in that direction if I go out today! That’s about 50 miles away probably but that’s probably where that smoke is coming from! Didn’t even know one was going on! Getting up into some serious acreage! Hope he makes it! I’ll try and get an update later, phyto.

There's another huge fire up northeast of you, but it's on the Oregon/Idaho border, though you could be seeing smoke from that too!

That’s possible! The wind usually come from the north here! Damn, that park fire started in upper Bidwell Park! That’s getting pretty fucking close to Chico! One of these days a fire is going to come roaring into Chico like it did Redding some years ago! With the carrfire! Then we won’t even go to the Paradise fiasco! No doubt about it! You picked the right place to live! When it comes to that stuff!

It wasn’t that long ago that old Station came pretty close to getting burned off the map! Maybe the thousand Lakes fire! I wanted to go backpacking up there till I found out most of it had burned up!😅

Dixie fire almost took out town, they stopped it about 1/4 mile from town (and my property) we were evacuated for two weeks. A lot of my deer hunting area burned, but it’s starting to come back slowly. Did see a fair amount of deer a couple weeks ago, and lots of bears!

Yeah, that’s getting very close! And it takes a while, but the hunting seems to come back better than ever eventually with all the new growth that spurts up after a fire! Mother nature uses fires, to renew the land! But a lot of animals get killed! Poor things!

Here's what the Dixie fire looked like in Old Station, my property is just across the highway from the plume!! Once we could return the whole area looked like matchsticks. In one night the fire moved 13 miles in a 6 mile wide swath!!

Magnificent and terrifying at the same time! Makes you feel pretty puny! You lucked out! I’ve driven 89 from Bernie back to Shingletown and yeah, it’s all burned up still!

Yeah, it is! Things move so fast people don’t have a chance! Same with that Redding fire! Although they had some warning! That’s where they learned about firenadoes ! Things create their own weather and wind, almost like they are alive!

I’ll take the threat of fire over hurricanes any day of the week! Although with hurricanes at least you get some Warning! If you get killed by them, it’s your own fault!

My place is across the highway from the Gas Station in Old Station on HW 44/89. The only reason we made it was they knew the fire was coming for a week, they set up a borate station and literally ringed town with Borate and lots of water drops as the fire approached. One of my neighbors has a pond they were using to get water for the helicopter water drops, the pond was fed by Hat Creek, he, of course, didn't mind, but said afterward that somewhere firefighters were getting 3-5 lb trout raining down on them from his pond!!!!
