"Tomato" Hornworm and general outdoor Q's

Hi All,

I just started noticing evidence of hornworm damage on my tomato plants (it's pissing me off cuz I can't locate it) and was wondering if these nasty plant demolishing little buggers also enjoy the foliage of our beloved cannabis plants?

One other question. I've only done a couple of indoor grows and want to try an outdoor plant or two. I was thinking about using fabric pots (15 gal), and was wondering if I would be losing the true power of an outdoor grow by not planting in the ground? For example, would I just be better off growing 15 gallon pots indoors and forgo all the potential for problems (which I have no idea about) with an outdoor grow?

Edit: One more Q, I have both auto's and photo's seeds, would an auto flower be a good intro into outdoor growing, or is a photoperiod the best way to go?

Hornworms have no reservations about consuming cannabis or many other plants for that matter. The way that I have found them is to look for little black dots on the leaves, then look directly above that area.

I grow mine in 15 gallon fabric pots outdoors. I seem to have less bug and pest problems that way versus placing them directly in the ground.

I've dealt with them in the past and they destroyed my veggie plants in the past, and in a matter of days.....they blend in with the plants so well (thanks Mother Nature). I just ordered a blacklight to locate the culprit cuz I don't spend months starting everything from seed, only to have it devoured in days and ruin my tomato plants.

I fought mealworms last summer starting about a week before harvest. I don't know where they came from (hell I'm assuming), but they showed up in force.

Blacklight will be your friend if you can't see them. When I am struggling to see them, I just keep checking (that day becse they will have it destroyed in no time) and try and follow the frass (shit). BT will kill them if you can't see them. Just spray the plant down. If you ever see them with white little eggs hatching from their back, leave them. Those are parasitic wasp hatching. The wasp get rid of all the pest you don't want. Best to leave them. Good luck. If you have chickens feed them the worms. Never feed reptiles them though because nightshades are poisonous to the reptiles.

Couple weeks late but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned BT17? Organic enzyme that went ingested makes the caterpillars stop eating and then they just die.

That’s close enough! I wouldn’t want to spray it on my buds! The thing is you have to take into account when they are giving a description saying it is safe to use right up till harvest, in my opinion, they are talking about eating it! You should be able to wash most of it off of vegetables and eating a little of it won’t hurt you! But they don’t say that it is safe to use right up till harvest, and then you can smoke it! High heat can change the chemical composition, and maybe make it more harmful! So you have to be careful! Use your own judgment! You can’t trust these manufacturers to look out after you! Glad you are getting a handle on them! UV flashlights are kind of fun to play with!

I bet if you look over that bottle, you will not see a reference to cannabis! I haven’t looked at my old bottle that I got five years ago and never used! Pot smoker Beware! Just food for thought!
