So this is my first attempt at growing and I am having a blast....until recently...

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed that new growth leaves, the tips are rolled up - or rolled in on themselves. They look kind of crispy, but they aren't. I am wondering if this is maybe a temperature issue? (Hell, it could be completely normal for new leaves, but I have no clue and can't really find anything online that looks like my "issue")

A little about my set up... Currently in a Mars Hydro 32x32x63 tent under a TS1000 LED. The light is currently at about 60% and I have it about 20 inches from the top of the plant. It is in Happy Frog soil and this plant is from a clone that was cut on 8/10. Aside from the new leaves being curled up, I think it is doing well and it has been growing like crazy.

The reason that I questioned the temperature is because my tent is currently in our finished basement....but it is cold down there. During the day my tent temps are in the low 70's and most of the time it hits a high of 72 or 73 with the light on. During lights out I am sure it is getting down into the mid 60's. My humidity is set right now at 63%.

I do have a fan that has been lightly moving the leaves, so I don't think that it is a wind/fan issue, but maybe with the low temps, etc....it makes it worse?

I tried to take good pics of the leaves in question, but here are some pics. If anyone has any suggestions/ideas/advice I would greatly appreciate any help.

Heat stress my friend. That or light proximity.
Output percentage?
Height above the plant?
Airflow?
Just read more seen the temps, turn you lights output down or raise the light up. Def want to know the height above canopy tho.

Thank you for taking a look! I think that I might be worse at taking pictures than trying to grow weed....but we all gotta start somewhere!

So the light is like 20" above the top of the plant. Here is an attempt at a pic...

I do have the oscillating fans in there, only the one is on and I did raise it up a few inches today to see if that was causing it? Here is a picture of how it all looks in the tent. THANK YOU for the help!!!

Def not good to have a fan directly blowing in plants, that coupled with the light, was most likely what was causing that. Always do indirect air flow in a grow area. They just need to be be dancing a bit, it’s not a huge issue, but I would maybe turn that light down 10% if you can, meaning the light doesnt have preset outputs, like 25%-50% ect. 10% lower if it’s doable homie. leave the height where it’s at, looks like you will be flipping soon.

Ok, awesome! The light is adjustable, so I will turn it down to around 40% and see how that goes. I will also make sure that I get the fan up higher as well. Thank you so much for the help!

Regarding my current location in the basement... I am concerned that I can't get the temps up so I got "permission" from the wife to take over one of the extra bedrooms and put my tent and set-up in there. I will certainly be able to regulate the temperature upstairs a little better. Do you agree that it would make sense to move the tent to where I can get it a bit warmer? I am not worried about it being too warm in there as I can open windows, etc. if need be, but we typically have the house temp at 70 degrees.

How long will those temps persist? I was trying to keep my shed around that for the last few weeks or even more during flower : ) I did keep my humidity lower than the 63% so if thats something you can control it might be worth keeping it in the basement. And even maybe the other way around. Veg in the warmer upstairs and use the cooler temps in flower? This is all spitballing, im a newer grower, take all this with a grain of salt : )

40 % is perfect, I never go above that in veg at 30-36in above canopy.
Nice work. And na 70 degrees is fine z

Just a quick update and another "thank you" for all of the knowledge that exists here! I checked on my girl this morning and she looks happy. Seems that turning the light down a bit and getting the fan aimed in a more plant friendly direction was the answer

Alright, I've been reading a lot on here and anywhere I can learn, and I have loved reading through the threads where people are documenting their grow. In the spirit of holding myself accountable, I figured that I would post my shit show of a first grow and if nothing else, I will have a place to go remember what I did wrong.

So I think I may have an idea on what is causing the "rolled up" leaf tips on my plant. To start at the beginning... I bought this clone out of the blue and in a moment of opportunity and I was completely unprepared for it. My initial intent was to just plant it outside to see how long it would grow, etc.

Well, that idea progressed over the next couple of days into me wondering if I could actually grow one....and the reading started. After I got the clone home, I put it in a slightly larger pot that my wife had laying around and stuck it into some potting mix and threw it outside in the sun. I watered the shit out of it for about a week because it was so sunny and hot outside. About that time I realized the light sensitivity of this plant and decided to buy a tent set up.

Anyway, from what I have seen online - the odd shaped leaves, 3 bladed fan leaves and the rolled leaf tips could be a result of the plant going into flower (because I left it outside for a little over a week at the end of august in Ohio....) and when I brought it back inside, I think it went back into vegetative state?

I was also terrified that I was over watering because the pot is feeling so heavy. I weighed her this morning and the 5 gallon "Mars Hydro" grow bag that came with my kit, filled with happy frog and the plant weighed 18.2 pounds. I keep reading and hearing comments of "only water when the pot feels light!!!" and I knew this this was a pig. I had thoughts all night of a big slimy root ball, just rotting away, so I filled another 5 gal bag with happy frog and weighed the "dry" soil and the bag and it was 16.1 pounds. The soil feels really dry, but I watered on Wednesday (plain RO water) until run-off. She is scheduled to be watered in the morning, so I am just waiting, as she is not drooping or anything.

I've got to give her some credit, she has been a resilient girl despite my best efforts to torture her. My wife is having a good time making fun of me....she told me that I have Munchausen's for a plant! 😆

I also topped her and did some branch manipulation. BUT!!!!! I have finally decided to stop abusing this poor thing, and if she recovers I promise to employ all of the things that I have learned in the past week.

Thanks for listening and I will keep posting pics of this initial journey.

Here she is, all ready for bed after being mean to her for hopefully the last time!

OK, so I watered her this morning with just RO water and used almost a gallon of water over about 10 minutes and got runoff. I forgot to weigh the pot before watering, but it was 18.2 pounds last night. After a full water and about 10 minutes to drain the excess I weighed her at 24.1 lbs. I don't know why I didn't think of weighing before....but at least I have a baseline.

She was looking happy this morning, other than the goofy leaves, but hopefully she takes off again.

Oh, and in retaliation for my wife teasing me about my ability to murder plants.... I have some deliveries coming today and tomorrow! I told her that some day, she will be basking in the glory that is my garden!

New light is here and waiting on the rest of the gear to show up. The light is one of the 300W Mars FC3000 Evo.

I ordered an AC Infinity fan/filter kit with the "pro" controller - that is coming today.

I also ordered another tent to compliment my current 32x32x63 tent. Tomorrow I have a slightly bigger 39x39x72" tent being delivered. Now I will have a veg tent and a flower tent.

Once everything is here, I will be moving everything into my fancy new grow lab...in one of the extra bedrooms.

Being empty nesters is opening new doors of opportunity!!! LMAO

Ok, I am happy to report that I made it through the whole work week without brutalizing this poor plant. I ended up waiting to water/feed her until Thursday morning. Used a gallon of RO water with the FF nutrients and some cal mag.

I am wondering how long I will end up having to wait to flip the light schedule? I am fairly certain that the goofy leaves (started shooting out 3 fingered, then single fingered and now it looks like she is spitting out three fingered again) are because at the beginning, I was not aware how critical the light schedule was and I think she went into flower then back into veg when I got my tent setup with the proper light schedule.

Am I correct in assuming that I would need to wait until it is making 5 fingered leaves before flipping to 12/12?

The other thing that is strange to me is how many branches this crazy plant is making. I did top it last weekend, but it was pretty "branchy" before, but now it just looks very confusing to me! LOL

I have no clue what to expect from this plant when I flip to flower, but I do have my new tent (taller) set up and ready to move her to when the time is right. Hopefully with the amount of branches it actually produces something....assuming that I don't continue to F up.... but I am learning. I think the hardest thing for me with this process is to just leave the poor plant alone. :-)

How many fingers your leaves have is a good sign for root zone health. If your plant has any problems such as pest pressure or fungus or a rot then it will start growing three finger or less fingered leaves. How much do you water and how often? I water every time the pot is light like it’s filled up with styrofoam almost. Like don’t wait til then but about that much. Also water until 10-20% of runoff comes out. So for me with a plant like that I would say half a gallon. If I do more it will make the roots have not enough oxygen killing them. Making my leaves have three fingers.

Well, I got the new tent all set up in the extra upstairs bedroom and I also moved the existing tent our of the basement as well. I was struggling to keep the temps in the 70's down there, even with the heater in there (without going way over with the temps). I am happy with the result - after an hour of everything running, she is holding steady at 78 degrees.

Howdy everyone. I tried to figure out how to edit my thread title to a "grow journal" but I can't figure it out.

Anyway, I fed and watered her Monday morning. Nutrients used are the FF bloom and grow big at 1/2 recommended and 3ml of CalMag. I am happy to report that the fan leaves that are just popping now are back to 3 fingers. My son came home over the weekend and when he looked at her, he started laughing and said "It doesn't even look like a pot plant anymore, what the hell did you do to it?!?" 😆

But, she is definitely growing and is filling out the 32x32 tent already. I have the new 39x39 tent set up and ready to go and I figure I should put her in the new tent and under the new light for a week before flipping the light schedule to flower? I'm not sure if that makes a difference or if it is me just over-thinking, but I figured it wouldn't hurt and it could help eliminate at least that variable should problems arise during the switch.

Here are current pics from this evening, I can't believe she is almost filling the tent already! (Which amplifies my urgency in getting her back to "full" leaves and then get her into flower before I have a monster on my hands!)

I've never seen a cannabis plant with single leaves. Not once. Lmmfao

You're wife saying you had Munchausen by proxy for the plant made me laugh out loud.

I think you should make sure you didn't bring anything into your new tent, and maybe start over. You never should've topped the plant because it isn't healthy. You also can't be worried about when you can flip her. She isn't even making 5 pointed leaves. Flipping shouldn't even be on your mind.

What strain is this? That type of information is important for you to know as a new grower. Each strain has specific growing info that you should look at as, one being unique leaf points. Also, document everything. Get you a journal and write everything down. Everything. You must learn to water properly too. What are you feeding her? I am sorry if I missed that, if you included it.

Not trying to sound like a Debbie Downer, but this plant isn't forgiving, if you don't know how to work her. Learn how to treat her properly, and you will be rewarded. She doesn't submit to someone that doesn't know what they are doing. Learn her first, before expecting all the performances.
