Just wondering if anyone wants to smoke a cigarette, drink some coffee and have some pillow talk with me this morning, I always love the morning after when I get FUCKED
So as some of you may know I'm in this Amazon Vine program where I get to order stuff from a huge list of things, for "free" and I just have to review it and I can keep it, or sell it or give it away, whatever. Well the catch to the program is they fuckin 1099-NEC you at the end of the year, for the tax value of everything you ordered. So say I order something listed for 200 dollars, I am responsible for 200 dollars worth of taxable income. Of course just like normal taxes, the more you make the more you pay (higher tax brackets etc).
So, I thought I would try to make some actual money off of this in order to cover the inevitable tax obligation I will have, and maybe put a couple dollars profit in my pocket. Well I made the mistake of taking 1k worth of retail value stuff to a pawn shop yesterday. It was mostly a few karaoke machine/bluetooth speakers, a professional sound mixer, etc.
Now, don't get me wrong. I understand how pawn shops work, I've dealt with them plenty over my years on this planet. They screw people just as a general rule. They're in it to make money, of course like anyone else in business.
Here's where I made my mistake. I assumed they would give me a "fair" value on the items I brought them. Now, in my book, "fair" would be 35% of the total retail value. This gives me enough to cover the tax obligation, plus put a few dollars in my pocket. That leaves the pawn shop with 65% potential profit margin on unopened, unused brand new products.
Did they even come close? Fuck no. Gave me 165 bucks on 1,015 dollars worth of brand new shit
I even went to a pawn shop that I have been going to for
years. I mean, when I was doing drugs, I probably put the store manager's kid through college

and that was the best they could do? It was a fucking
insult.
I took it, unfortunately. If I wasn't so desperate, I would have turned around and walked out, but kinda needed the money so I took the hit.
Lesson learned? Fuck pawn shops. No, I already knew this, but seriously? These places should just be banned and forgotten as a bad memory in history. I vowed
years ago to stop pawning shit, and ever since I got out of that pawn game, life has been good. I figured I could at least
sell some shit to them here and there, but that, too, is a no go
I got a guy living on my property right now, who's stuck in that pawn game. He's pawned a bunch of his tools and shit and lives on a disability check bigger than mine. Yet every month dude spends 3/4 of his disability check on getting stuff out of pawn, just to bring it back to pawn a couple days later, and he's been stuck in that same damn pattern for years, never getting ahead, just ice skating uphill, trying like hell and going nowhere.
So, thank God I'm not stuck in that shit.
I do believe I will attempt to sell this shit on Ebay from now on. I think even if I started bidding at a penny, I'd still be better off than selling to a fuckin pawn shop
Oh, believe me, I know, I should have known better, but I had to give it a shot, I figured maybe, just maybe, they would show a speck of humanity, but that's my bad for assuming
