This is my first real grow!

Alright nevermind, sucrose is apparently great which has me confused. Its the main suggar the plants use, so Im here thinking if adding white suggar is actually a good idea... Ive been told otherwise many times.

Im not a big fan of sucrose but I guess its still suggars in the end. Sucrose if Im not mistaken is similar to white suggar, which I would never feed to my plants. But I might be wrong here or maybe theyre just aimed towards the microbes.
I think youre thinking of sucralose, which is a fake artificial sugar replacement. Ironically it causes your body to absorb MORE sugar if you eat it hahaha

Or maybe im thinking of the wrong thing 🤣

No, I was thinking of regular white suggar. Thats sucrose. Ive always been told not to feed white suggar to the plants but Ive never been told why and its the same chemical they produce via photosyntesis... so hence my confusion.
But yes now that you mention it sucralose is an artificial sweetener. I dont use it but Im gonna check what the studies say about it.

All good with sucralose 👍it was thought to be bad for plants but a study showed otherwise. Sadly its not about weed but many studies that I have to rely on are not about weed because there's none.
"Sucralose was hypothesized to negatively affect photosynthesis and growth of L. minor because sucralose is a chlorinated molecule that may be toxic or unusable for plant metabolism.
We conducted laboratory ecotoxicological assessments for a large range of concentrations of sucralose and fluoxetine on L. minor physiology and photosynthetic function. Frond green leaf area, root length, growth rate, photosynthetic capacity, and plant carbon isotopic composition (discrimination relative to a standard; δ13C) were measured among treatments ranging from 0 to 15000nmol/L-sucralose and 0-323nmol/L-fluoxetine. Contrary to our predictions, sucralose significantly increased green leaf area, photosynthetic capacity, and δ 13C of L. minor at environmentally relevant concentrations. The increase of δ 13C from sucralose amendments and an isotope-mixing model indicated substantial sucralose uptake and assimilation within the plant. Unlike humans who cannot break down and utilize sucralose, we documented that L. minor-a mixotrophic plant-can use sucralose as a sugar substitute to increase its green leaf area and photosynthetic capacity."

Also dont mind the fluoxetine, thats an antidepressant that was pressent in the tap water. If you read the study that one didnt make the plants too happy.

Yea i read the "regular whote sugar" part literally seconds after posting that response 🤣 got a little ahead of myself hahaha

Good question though, i wonder why white sugar would be bad if its the same thing.... maybe just the fact that its been heavily processed? Im not sure

Probably because it’s usually bleached.
Look at Sucanat or Sucranat…something like that.
I’ve had so many growers tell me it’s the shit for sugars.

That would make sense, 100% dont want anything thats ever come in contact with bleach in my soil lol

White suggar is not bleached, but it can have residual sulfuric compounds which should be just more food for the plant. Brown suggar is also not bleached and Ive been told to stay away from it. I dont know... Well at least is not bleached here, I dont know there.

Them buds startin to thicken up now! Aaawwwww yyyeeeeaaaaa 😁

So iv been trying to get an idea for the total yield of this plant.... its in a 2x2x4, so im not expecting a ton. Its a really healthy plant though, so would i be expecting too much if i say im hoping for about 4oz out of this plant? I feel like thats totally doable with this size plant. What do you guys think?

I think 4 zips well and truely doable out of this plant it’s wicked healthy as long as she nugs up solid I’m guessing easy 4👍

I don’t think the small temp swing will really be noticed. But I’d actually suggest upward of 80 in veg. Just not much above that. Maybe wait tell flower than switch.

I agree but I would run that temp all the way through flower except the last few weeks where lowering the temp will preserve terps. One of the things I like to do is to measure not only the air temp but the leaf temp. This gives me a better idea as to how the plant is performing. 80° - 82° air temp usually lands me at right around 77° leaf temp. I use a laser thermometer to measure readings. Not the most accurate but close enough. 77° leaf temp has been shown to be the ideal temp for the most efficient photosynthesis.

Temp and Light energy are kind of like the accelerator on a car. The more you push it the faster it goes. Push it too hard and you'll crash.

Hey everyone! Im growing a seed i got from a bag of Platinum Garlic OG from Triple Seven out here in AZ. Iv had some trouble keeping the temps down where my grow tent used to be, so i dedicated an extra room to it. I was keeping my temps between 70° and 80°, but with the new setup i think i can keep temps lower. Anyone think il stress her out too much if i lower temps by 5-10° on average? Shes only about 5 weeks old at this point.

Il post a couple baby pictures too so everyone can see her progression :)

Growing in purple cow indicanja soil using distilled water with a humidifier running basically 24/7 (AZ dry as fuck) in a 3 gallon fabric pot in a vivosun 2x2x4 grow tent with a 100W dimmable/adjustable vivosun aerolight
I appreciate your enthusiasm. We all remember our first grows and how excited we were. You are doing great, but you are doing a little too much. No need for distilled water. Also in that dry of a climate, fabric pots are probably drying out too fast, but im not there in person, just a thought. Plants will be fine vegging at 80 degrees as long as you add some humidity. I used to grow in az with no humidifiers before anyone (myself included) knew about vpd. In many books we were all taught driest is best because it will increase crystals/terps. We learned this isn't true. I have had many amazing harvests in az without anything extra. Just keep your temps slightly below 80 during flower. Even 80 is OK. Just check your vpd. Good news is in az you don't have to worry about mold.

I got my mini fan from vivosun a few days ago, finally got it set up today :)

Loving watching the trichomes and buds grow! How long do you experienced growers usually have to wait before you see your buds get thick and juicy lookin? Lol

Got my jewelers loupe in a good position for the 90x zoom to work right! At least mostly. Its not perfect by any means but its pretty damn cool to see!

Say I have one of those 6 inch oscillating fans from Viva Sun as well be careful and do not manually turn the neck on that thing because there’s gear inside of it. It’ll bust the teeth off of it and then it will stop actually running the fan and you’ll have to walk over to it and move the neck a little bit to get it to catch again, so be super careful with those things. And yes it still happens when the oscillator is off.

Great fan, and settings, bad neck. Just a little tidbit so you can keep your shit nice 👊🏻🤡
