Bud Rot is Killing Me!

same here even indoor, out of 8 plants 4 main colas had mold, lost half of them.

and due to high rh what's been cut two weeks ago isn't yet dry ...

Here's where I'm having some anxiety. I'm assuming that even if I cut off visible bud rot, there may still be spores. I have been trimming weed now for three days and putting it in the drying baskets as a go. I'm just about done trimming the last problematic plant - lost about 50% of it to bud rot so far. I'm thinking of taking all the weed out of the baskets and giving it all a H202 bath, letting them all air dry for a bit and then putting them back to dry. Thoughts?

I actually went out there today and took the Leaf Blower to the plants (from a distance of course). I'm going to start airing them out every morning to get the dew or even rain off of them. I know some say not to do this, but it makes sense to me to at least try to keep them as dry as I can.

I live in East Central Fla.
I use a hair dryer every morning on the budz.......

They seem to like it.
No issues yet using half speed and no heat.

That's what I do.
I inspect the buds once I cut them off the stem and if they're good I drop them in a bucket with H2O2, lemon juice and water.
Once I'm all done inspecting, I gently agitate them, rinse in clear water then lay them on paper towels to drip dry.
About an hour later I put all in my drying basket and on the other side of the room I turn a small fan on.
BTW, they usually dry to the touch in 2-3 days. Once put into my tote I have to check every day to make sure the humidity doesn't get above 65%. If it does, I open the container and leave it open for a day or so, close it back it and check it the next day.

Seems like a decent plan. I'm going out to get some h202 now, finish trimming last plant, give all plants a bath.

I had a couple of small nuggets that I chopped off my maui wowie plant about a month ago, when dealing with some bud rot. I dried it and cured it. These buds were very young. I just took a few hits and it didn't taste great. A little green and metalic. Pretty immediate head high though! Gives me some hope that these buds that are a month or so more mature may be pretty good.

Follow up: that was a pretty decent Sativa buzz and I only took 3 small hits. I think that the youngness of the Bud probably contributed to it tasting a little metallic/earthy. I also only cured it for about 2 weeks. The high was solid, but didn't last very long, which is fine with me. Even though it was a bit metallic, I've actually purchased dispensary weed that isn't much better, if not worse. Also, I took that nugget off the plant way before I started feeding Carbo load. Fingers crossed for the final product. I would like to believe that it could only get better.

Just washed the Maui Wowie. I cannot believe the amount of shit that came off of those buds. I am not a strong advocate of Bud Washing unless the smoke sucks for some reason. I have two baskets. One with Fritter Glitter and the MW that I chopped last week. I did not wash it because I felt I was too far into the drying process. For the more recent basket, shown here, I only hung them up on late Saturday, Sunday and yesterday. They got a wash. I inspected before and after and the Trichomes looked the same. I used 48 onces of H202 with 2 gallons of water (bucket one); 1/2 cup of baking soda, 3 limes, and 2 gallons of water (bucket 2); and, bucket 3 was a water only rinse. they are out there drying now and soon to be back in the drying room. Hey Cape.....yeah....the good ole eastern weather......sorry to hear about the rot and mold......I'm in CNY region and I pulled a couple lower branches off this weekend, before the rain hits.....now I know, for a fact, that I was able to harvest some outdoor this year...the rest are staying out......hopefully......wishing you a great harvest!

Thanks! Same to you. Get to it before the Rot does. You're in a similar situation where you are, minus the coastal weather, which was a real problem last week.

Don’t let the sun hit your drying buds Cape! Best to be in the dark at 60/60 temp/rH. Main 2xthings that will degrade your harvest is light & heat.

Thanks. After I washed them, I let them drip in partial shade for two hours. Now they are in the basement, in the dark, and with a fan and dehumidifier. The bud that I hung down there on Thursday is close to dry at this point. I'm now wondering if Jars or Grove bags would be the way to go.

you want to make damn sure it is dry enough before you jar it up! It’s not always easy to tell from look and feel. Especially for a first timer!

That would be a very quick dry. But could happen if your temp is high and humidity low. In general it should take about 10 days to dry before you will start the curing process. Your bud stems should “crack” when you bend them. If they just bend and don’t snap (you’ll hear it) then it’s still too wet and should keep drying.

Edit: don’t blow your fan directly on your buds. Just keep the air flowing around the room

Thanks. Good call out on the Fan. My basement is about 65degrees, fan is blowing away from the weed and against the wall to disperse the air flow, and the dehumidifier is on.

One thing that I didn't mention is that I wet trimmed the bud. The bud is more or less drying in its finished form. I realize that there are definite Con's associated with wet trimming, but given the bud rot problem that I was having, I wanted to limit the amount of vegetation in the dry room. I'm thinking that wet trimmed bud will probably dry faster.

I definitely suspect that it does. I literally just went into the basement and found a bud that I left quite a bit of vegetation on. It is in the exact same environment as the rest of the drying bud and is noticeable not as dry.

I read somewhere that too fast of a dry is not a good thing. I would rather it take a couple of weeks, but if we allow Bud Rot in the dry room, everything is screwed.

Fast drying will be full of chlorophyll and taste awful. Mine feels more dry this morning than I'd like. My indoor hydrometer won't be here until Thursday. Wasn't prepared to take a plant down so soon.

I took another look at them, and tried snapping a few more stems. If I bend back and forth a couple of times, they break; however, for the first snap they just bend. Even though the bud feels dry, the probably need a bit longer. Tomorrow will be 1 week for that batch. Maybe I'm not drying too fast after all. I have a few nugs that I clipped the week before last and just put them in dispensary jars with 58% humidity packs. They have been jarred now for two days and are smelling awesome!!! What a difference even a couple of days makes in the Jar. At first they smelled really green and not very good.

Yes, the green hay smell is odd for our brains to compute. We aren't used to that odor coming off of her. Ha.

Will do. I'm also going to be running a curing experiment. I will be curing most of my harvest in Grove Bags, but I will cure a few ounce's in Jars with a 62% humidity packs (burping frequently week one, and then once a day for the second week, once every few days 3rd, etc.).

Since I was forced to harvest right after feeding due to weather, I will also be able to report back if not flushing caused the weed to be harsh.

May as well pull some good data/intelligence from this disaster!
